5.0 out of 5 stars wood lovers delight
This book is very nicely detailed in describing the unique style of Po Shun. The photographs are vivid and the sections documenting construction of various boxes is interesting and informative. Highly recommended as a coffee table book or reference for the wood worker.

If you are going to be a true artist you need to learn about other artists and how they do their work. The items I took from this book are that I don't care for the boxes made in this manner and what direction I do not want to go.

If you are going to be a true artist you need to learn about other artists and how they do their work. The items I took from this book are that I don't care for the boxes made in this manner and what direction I do not want to go.
These "boxes" are only boxes in that they have an open space in them somewhere. I would call them sculptures instead of boxes. After reading the book I can see the artistic concepts Mr. Leong is working with and I can understand why Mr. Lydgate admires him. I simply disagree based on my preferences in art.
If this has been recommended to you as a "how to" book, you need to know that it is really a review of Leong's life and career. There are some exploded plans in the back but most people would be hard stretched to actually use them successfully to create a box. I feel that the plans are more there to illustrate the process Leong uses as another aspect of looking at his career as opposed to helping someone build a box of their own.
Buyer beware. If you want an Art History book, this may be what you want. If you are considering this book as an aid to helping you in the shop, look somewhere else; that is not what this book is meant to be.
Best wishes!
