Book Description

February 2, 1998 0435081527 978-0435081522

Making Change provides an inside look at one of the most radical school reform initiatives that our nation has ever witnessed. In 1990, Kentucky took the unprecedented step of declaring its educational system "unconstitutional" and ratified the Kentucky Education Reform Act-creating a model of education reform considered the best in the land. But within a few short years, early optimism gave way to frustration and doubt. This book is an attempt to understand the painful transitions and personal reflections of three educators as they adjusted to such massive systemic and social change.

4.0 out of 5 stars Important book about the human side of large-scale change, March 18, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Making Change: Three Educators Join the Battle for Better Schools (Hardcover)
Kentucky schools have been under a national microscope since the state's passage of the 1990 Kentucky Education Reform Act -- thought at the time to be the nation's most ambitious school reform law ever. Holly Holland's decision to examine the impact of reform through the eyes of three small-town educators -- a superintendent, a principal, and a teacher -- is inspired. A well-written, important book about the human impact of large-scale reform efforts.
