Book Description

May 1997
In the first edition of "Making the Church Work," Hammett wrote that the church is not only in need of change, but also in need of a conversion. Now his conviction is stronger than ever. In this second edition, he addresses the issues of changing value -values about what leaders and their congregations are doing as a church and the effectiveness of their techniques. Hammett is convinced that until church leaders change their values healthy, relevant, and effective churches are not like to appear.

Unique features of this book include:

. Overview of trends and issues impacting the church's ineffectiveness

· Opportunities for individual readers, small groups, and congregations to reflect on their journey, in light of these trends and issues

· Practical guidance for addressing problems and for equipping the church for more effective ministry in the 21st century.

More About the Author

I have a serious interest in learning to BE church more than DOing church in a 21st century world. As a certified Christian coach (PCC) I seek to help believers and non-believers move from where they are to where they want to be. Helping persons self-discover that which God has planted in them is exciting to me. I am a graduate of Furman University, Southern Seminary and have done extended studies in adult education at NC State and Duke University. I'm the author of 7 books that deal with BEING church in the 21st century. I also serve as a coach trainer for Valwood Coaching; Coach Approach Ministries and The Columbia Partnership which allows me to work with a variety of denominations, judicatories and churches across the country.

This review is from: Making the Church Work: Converting the Church for the 21st Century (Paperback)
Hammett presents a well-articulated challenge for the church in his book. Beginning with an assessment of "what's wrong," Hammett moves the reader toward theologically sound and practical ways for a more authentic way of being and doing church in the 21st century. Highly recommended.
