An Overlooked Gem And A Lemon From UFO's Latter Years, August 24, 2000
The first half of this CD,"Making Contact",is a tragically ignored piece of sturdy British metal, injected with a healthy dose of American hard rock. It has become fashionable for many critics to praise the Michael Schenker years and to forget about the rest of the band's output. For those critics, I offer tracks like "Diesel In The Dust","The Way The Wild Wind Blows",and "No Getaway" as examples that UFO could make strong music without Germany's favorite axe hero. Making Contact truly was the last great UFO album. No fan of melodic metal should be deprived of it. However,I would advise that fan to stop dead after track ten. Misdemeanor is tin foil compared to Making Contact and shows the English street rockers going for the cash rather than the throat. UFO's label bosses must have been on their back to become a blue-blooded Bon Jovi complete with silly hair-do's and wishy-washy tunes that reek of cheap cologne. I can't remember one song from that bag of popcorn. This "two for one" deal loses a star from me for Misdemeanor's inclusion. Eat Making Contact and give the rest to the dog. You don't need the fat.

an unfortunate end of great band for a while!, April 8, 2009
these two albums by ufo were the weakest ever! i am a fan of both the michael schenker and paul chapman era ufos, however by the time making contact was released the band had gone through a revolving door of personal changes which is a situation that does,nt always make for ideal conditions to create great albums under..making contact has a couple of fairly good songs. however after the making contact tour ufo split up for a while..until 1986 when with yet another new line up they created mis demeanor..which i bought at the time thinking it,s great ufo is back sort of!..when i brought it home i could,nt wait to hear it!!...wow what a disappointment..for the first time i had a ufo album that i did,nt even like one song from! i gave it 2 more listens.. and never listened to it again!!it is not a misdemeanor it is a felony!

"Making Contact", One of the Greatest Rock Records EVER, October 20, 2003
"Making Contact" is my favorite U.F.O. record, and I think it's one of the greatest Hard Rock records ever recorded. Michael Schenker isn't on it and maybe that's why it sounds so great. I.M.H.O., Michael Schenker's song writing isn't as good as his guitar playing. Yes, great guitar playing is, of course, an essential ingredient for Hard Rock music, BUT so is great SONG WRITING!! The songs on "Making Contact" are INCREDIBLE because of the teaming of Phil Mogg (Vocals) and Neil Carter (Keyboards, Rythem Guitar, Bass Guitar and Vocals) who are credited for 7 of the 10 songs on this album. Melodic, yet still Hard and Powerful, every song ROCKS! Back in 1983 I went to a Talas concert (bassist Billy Sheehan's group before he joined David Lee Roth) and they played "DIESEL IN THE DUST" live, it was killer! So if you're into VERY WELL WRITTEN Melodic Hard Rock Songs, you should make contact with U.F.O.'s "MAKING CONTACT".
