About the Author

Romy Lewis and Victoria Jossel grew up in the same area of London when their families moved from South Africa in the early '90s. LOLA's was set up in 2006 by Victoria (a former derivatives trader at Goldman Sachs) and Romy (a journalist), both in their twenties. Their online store is the busiest part of their business, and they have a flagship store in Mayfair and concessions in Selfridges, Topshop and Harrods.

I picked this book up at our local independent bookstore with the intention of making cupcakes with my kids and their friends. There are plenty of traditional and delicious favorites in here, but also some decidedly adult (cocktail cupcakes!) and many really interesting new recipes as well.
The family raves over the good old standbys (made fresh with the use of vanilla bean rather than extract), my book club loves the lighter selections - many of which put berries to excellent use, and my Ladies Who Lunch have enjoyed my cocktail cupcakes. There are even a few vegan cupcake recipes in there! Truly there is something for everyone - even those who may not identify themselves as cupcake connoisseurs.
The book was written from a British perspective (Lola is based in London), but the measurements come in both metric and imperial (US standard). If you're in the market for an excellent go-to cupcake resource, no matter where you reside you will do well with Making Cupcakes with Lola.

I was amazed with the amount of recipes, traditional and new, that l I could find in that book. The authors have a refreshing approach on how to do cupcakes. This is a reference book to me, and tough me a lot on how to mix and balance flavors. The authors are real flavor alchemists! The instructions are simple and easy to follow and the pictures are really great.WIth this book you can make original cupcakes for your family and friends or even start a new business!
