5.0 out of 5 stars a quaint nutty types abound..., March 23, 2006
This review is from: Making Dens (Dig) (Audio CD)
the mystery jets first proper album has been a long time coming, for me anyway, I first saw them live 5 years ago, and to be honest they were terrible, a bunch of nasal gazing wanna be hippies and hipsters, banging home made drums and writing love songs to jim morrison.

but then the winds of music changed and wierd became cool and for a while the mystery jets were gold dust on the london music underground, and so here we are today, in a new era.

prog rock and possibly art rock, will be used to describe this, and to be honest the tunes without lyrics will flake past, not even leaving a stain, but it is when they open their mouths...

I'm not sure this should have been released in its current form. they should have written more matterial. but this is what we're left with...

I must say that i loved its swanseaic sweeps and dives, its strikingly Savoyard themes and excellentness.

the image that best sums up the album, for me, is that of a lazy, late summers afternoon, when you emerge after 47 hours of none stop raving in a sweaty basement and the warm gentle sun lies across your face and you sit down next to a stream and drink a bottle of cheap german wine to keep your heart beat regular and there is a russel of leaves and a family of ducks paddle by. that is the exact level of exhustion and confusion and feeling of coming to something clean after so long and the dirt is not an issue, cause we love you anyway, and nothing can change that.

if you get me...

they are amazing live, I don't know if they are touring the States any time soon, but if they are, i'll see you there. I love this record, and wine, but together they are nearly unstopable.

and the lead singers dad plays rythem guitar.
