5.0 out of 5 stars A great book on the subject, July 16, 2001
This review is from: Making Dolls' House Furniture (Paperback)
This book is a wonderfully comprehensive set of instructions to make a Victorian style dollhouse, complete with family, servants, and shops to go to. The book includes wonderful step-by-step instructions, which show you exactly how to make the various parts. Exploded diagrams show you the parts coming together, making construction easy, and many wonderful photographs (mostly black-and-white, but some color) show what the finished product should look like.

I can't say enough about this book. If you are interested in making dollhouse furniture, then you must at least look at this book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Get your imagination going with this book, July 20, 2005

This review is from: Making Dolls' House Furniture (Paperback)
This book has its good and bad points. The best thing about this book is the author's intent. She wanted readers to be aware that you can make miniature objects out of things in your home. Miniatures don't have to be an expensive hobby. She gives lots of great ideas for making all kinds of fixtures and furniture for roomboxes and dollhouses. Many color photos are included although the majority of the pictures are black and white.
My main complaint about the book are the displays she used to show her miniatures. Her themes were victorian so she embellished her pieces with a lot of overly ornate materials. I really didn't like her roomboxes because they looked way too cluttered even for the period she chose. They looked gaudy and sometimes juvenille.
Still the book is worth a look because of her emphesis on resourcefulness, but do try to borrow it at the library or buy it used. There are many other better books out there covering the same topic.

1.0 out of 5 stars IF YOU'RE FOND OF JUNKY AND TACKY..., September 27, 2008
This review is from: Making Dolls' House Furniture (Paperback)
...then this book is for you! I was surprised by the positive reviews. Ms. King is resourceful in finding materials to use, but the results most often resemble something produced by an inept child. The many items made from cheap cardboard and foil look - yes! - as if they are made from cheap cardboard and foil. I am all for innovation if the end result is attractive, but these items are not. I would furnish my dollhouse with this stuff only if it was to be viewed from several yards away.
