This book is chock full of great ideas and includes some more modern furniture..something that many miniature books are lacking. The directions are a bit difficult to follow and have to be read very carefully. Measurements are sometimes not correctly stated. If your unsure..make a paper pattern first. Final results will be much better.

Among "How-To" books, this is a standout. Includes specifics on how to build everything from victorian parlor furniture to a palm-shaded island porch. Instructions are clear, patterns are already in 12-inch scale. Beautifully illustrated. A must for any miniaturist!

I eagerly awaited the arrival of this book. I had seen and read it at the library and fell in love with its detailed descriptions and inspiration rooms. At first glance I wondered how I could create any of the rooms that were shown, but I noticed how easily the directions were read and how clearly the patterns were printed. Wonderul book! Many thanks to the author! Bravo!

I bought this book because of some positive reviews elsewhere and a synopsis I read. However, although there are lots of detailed color photos and instructions to follow here, I was not overly impressed by this book. It's a neat book. It touches on getting started and the required tools for decorating the doll house interior in 1/12 scale. The book breaks down making period furnishings and accessories room by room: the country kitchen, the scullery, the parlour, the bedroom, the sitting room, the town kitchen, the georgian room, the tudor room, and the garden. The ideas are limited in execution, as are the instructions.
I enjoy perusing the book for the photos and some do inspire a few ideas, though unless you're apt to make the specific period items in this book, it wouldn't be much use for the average miniaturist. |
