5.0 out of 5 stars Feel good book gets you talking, August 16, 2006

This review is from: Making Every Day Count: Daily Readings for Young People on Solving Problem, Setting Goals, and Feeling Good About Yourself (Paperback)
I bought this book because I want to keep my finger on the pulse of my kid's goals, feelings, and social well being. This book is similar to 'adult' affirmation books, but it truly is written for teens - and very well written;

Every day covers certain themes such as manners, feelings, attitudes, goals, time management, & problem solving. Each day begins with a quote from a variety of folks (Eleanor Roosevelt, Chris Rock, David Robinson, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Jesse Jackson, Sting, Mark Twain, etc.) A short paragraph gets you thinking & talking about the topic. The day ends with a topical affirmation (what the book calls "I-Statements") - suggestions about how to use the day's ideas in your daily life.

We have enjoyed this book. It's approx. 4'x6' and close to 400 pages. I keep it on the kitchen cupboard and plan to continue using it over breakfast throughout the school year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living a Conscious Life, December 4, 2008
This review is from: Making Every Day Count: Daily Readings for Young People on Solving Problem, Setting Goals, and Feeling Good About Yourself (Paperback)
I just got this book and it's great! There is a famous quote on each page followed by questions to get you thinking about how this quote relates to you and your life. It's followed by an affirmation to help you practice the idea throughout the day.

The title really does the book justice, helping you make each day of your life count, living life on purpose. I would recommend this book to children and adults. I'm even reading it to my 5 year old.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making Every Day Count Daily Readings for Young People on Solving Problems, Setting Goals, & Feeling Good About Yourself, August 29, 2010
This review is from: Making Every Day Count: Daily Readings for Young People on Solving Problem, Setting Goals, and Feeling Good About Yourself (Paperback)
I teach 5th and 6th grade GATE students and I used this book last year as a daily start to the day. One of the students would read the quote and explanation. Some days it would lead to class discussion, other days it would speak for itself. I loved the positive messages and felt most days the students were taking in what was offered, and could really relate to the message. It created a sense of community it the classroom. I am going to use it again this year, even though 1/2 my class will be returning. My thought is they are at a different place in their growth & development this year, and a different message may resonate more loudly with them this year. Our district is big on Character Education and I find these lend themselves nicely to that.
