Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Welcome to fairy land, where a large squiggle of chenille stems is a tree house home or a bird's nest; sculpted yarn makes a sheltering toadstool or a cluster of berries; and friends include pompom owls and caterpillars, and chenille grasshoppers and bees. The fairies themselves are charming humanoids resembling woodland flora and fauna: acorns, berries, flowers, moths, and dragonflies. This is the world of Julie Sharp's Making Fairies and Fantastical Creatures, a delightful collection of two dozen mostly easy projects using simple techniques and common materials to construct fairies, creatures, little hideaways, and mini-furniture (the treasure trunk made of woven pipe cleaners is especially clever). A techniques section lays down the basics--manipulating chenille stems, constructing yarn pompoms, making felt garments--and each project is explained in detail and carefully diagrammed. Most of the time Sharp manages to avoid the cutesy and turn out enchanting creations. --Amy Handy

5.0 out of 5 stars So Adorable, October 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Making Fairies & Fantastical Creatures: How to Weave and Carve in Wool and Chenille (Paperback)
I asked for this book to make things for my Waldorf schooled child or with my Waldorf grade school students if it was simple enough. I think the children over 3rd grade could handle most of the things with help. It is more complicated than I imagined (HAPPILY). I am really tired of making nuthats and the KLUTZ type faries, they are wonderful, but we needed something new! These are not necessarily Waldorf friendly for the purists, but they could certainly be easily adapted to be so! The fairies are terribly adorable. We cannot wait to get started on dragonfly!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of a Kind!, May 14, 2002
This review is from: Making Fairies & Fantastical Creatures: How to Weave and Carve in Wool and Chenille (Paperback)
One of a kind. An exquisite conception, a much wanted and needed craft book that involves the whole family. Crosses all social, economic and cultural boundaries in a most fantastical and dreamy way that I have not seen before! I wish the writer all the best, as she's brought so much to us...............awating her next book!
