5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book.
This book has helped me in so many ways. I have read it many times and continue to reread sections that are relevant to what it happening in my life at certain times. Although there are many funny and exaggerated examples of human behaviour in the book that Matthews uses to illustrate his points, they add a touch of humour to the book and I often could see a piece of...

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade about this book, its just i had been turned against on for a year by my friends, and my parents and i where willing to make me happier. It all started when i was in holidays in Australia. We went for a walk and after a while we went in a library, and i asked the lady if this would be suitable for my age(13), and she then said yes, so i...

This book has helped me in so many ways. I have read it many times and continue to reread sections that are relevant to what it happening in my life at certain times. Although there are many funny and exaggerated examples of human behaviour in the book that Matthews uses to illustrate his points, they add a touch of humour to the book and I often could see a piece of myself in them. This book has made me cry many times, but that is not bad. It is confronting to read the truth, to discover what we are doing wrong and to learn how easy it really is to achieve what we actually want, but it is worth it. I thoroughly recommend this book to everyone and applaud Andrew Matthews for his wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Common Sense in a Concise, Easily Referenced Format, October 1, 1998
By
This review is from: Making Friends (Paperback)
I want to recommend this book wholeheartedly. It is fun and easy to read, and will have your sides aching from laughing. But the laughter will not only be from the well-written, tongue-in-cheek humor - it will also be from relief. The relief will be that the everything presented in this book is very common-sensical and workable. Most of what Mr. Matthews has written here is no mystery - it's just that it may not have occurred to the reader. One revelation that had me slapping my forehead in realization is the notion that, when someone's angry or irate with you, facts don't help. Feelings do. Simple...? Yes. But this one little idea has already saved me from unknowingly escalating one really potentially volatile argument, and several smaller ones. This information is, literally, usable immediately. If you want to make more friends, or even if you'd like to improve the friendly (and even romantic) relationships you are already involved in, read this book. It is a compilation in plain language of everything about friendship that you've never been able to verbalize.

5.0 out of 5 stars Friend? I've none until I read this book., April 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Making Friends (Paperback)
That is a true statement, for me at least. I was a lonely figure that everyone like to avoid. I don't know why as I feel my intention is pure & good.

And the book tell me what is wrong start from the first chapter. I was deadly wrong in every chapter. Thank to Andrew for pointing it out clearly. Just feel like this book is written for me from the upper sky.

This book really makes a lot of friends for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book exposes the facts and fun of human behaviour., December 28, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Making Friends (Paperback)
Andrew has produced a technical reference on human behaviour that anyone can read and understand and will have you in stiches. This book will have you saying to yourself "thats true" many times , meaning you knew that but had never put it into words yourself. A great book for any member of the family.

2.0 out of 5 stars dissapointed, April 26, 2003

Sorry to rain on everyone's parade about this book, its just i had been turned against on for a year by my friends, and my parents and i where willing to make me happier. It all started when i was in holidays in Australia. We went for a walk and after a while we went in a library, and i asked the lady if this would be suitable for my age(13), and she then said yes, so i bought it, and walked back to the hotel, and then to my suprise, this book was not helpful at all for me, it was telling me to do all these things that at my age would be considered lame, so i was very sad. So if your thinking about getting this book please note if your under 18 it wont help, though it had some funny comics of what not to do, and it had me happy for the amount of time it took me to finish this book, but it was telling me things like to dress up neat and show neatness, but i knew that if i did that i would be in a much worse case so please, don't buy this book if your under 18, it is just useless for under 18's, and i also didn't like the idea of how the reader was kinda pushing you into not being so sad or unhappy with yourself by saying things like, if you keep this up you could comite suicide and so on. Any way heres a discription on each 6 chapters.

CHAPTER 1: This chapter is mainly saying how where all the same and we all have bad habits and we all get nervouse. This chapter mainly tries to get you to realise your not different to others.

CHAPTER 2: This chapter tells you a bit about attracting people, expressing anger and blaming people.

CHAPTER 3: This chapter seems to deal alot with assertiveness and to not care about what other people think about you.

CHAPTER 4: This chapter deals with respect and tells you how to respect people, and it tells you a bit about the value of compliments.

CHAPTER 5: This chapter talks about arguments and how to avoid arguments and fights, and this chapter may also teach you how to tell someone their wrong in a nice way.

CHAPTER 6: This chapter talks about gossip, jealousy and how to make others happy.

Overall go get this book if your over 18 and i recomend you check out his other book being happy(that helped me), and please note that this book didn't help me, but any way if you really disagree with my rating then forget about that and read the discription of each chapter. THANKYOU FOR READING-peace

Of all Matthews' books, this is the one I like most . It is so inspiring and motivating. His ideas in this book are delivered in simple and humorous manners, yet true and practicable in our day to day encounters with others. Matthews is truly a genius!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, December 12, 2007
This review is from: Making Friends (Paperback)
Just like all of Andrew Matthews books, this book was also a pleasure to read.
Very easy language and description. Many of the subject matter is known to all of us, but no harm in reminding ourself ones in a while.

I did gain from this book cos i get into trouble with my honesty and frankness and this book taught me that its necessary to sometimes tell a while lie.

The book is all about, how to behave and conduct ourself inorder to make friends. In todays world one of the biggest desease that eats people is loneliness. This book gives you hints on how not to be lonely.

Worth every penny!

I never thought it was possible to write on complex relations of human with such a simple language. Behavioural sciences have always been complex ananlysis which is not easy for average person to undersatnd. This book cleared lot of cobwebs in my mind about relation between two humans.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites!, August 1, 2009
This review is from: Making Friends (Paperback)
This book has been a firm favorite from the time I first read it (when I was just 16) I'm now in my thirties. I love Andrew Matthews sense of humor and laugh out loud when I see his cartoons. The cartoons serve to enhance the common sense (and wonderful) advice Andrew shares and add greatly to the enjoyment of the book. This book is easy enough for a teenager to read and enjoy, as I am sure many will. And it will equip you with social skills for life.
