4.0 out of 5 stars Its Title Says it All
I've read some of the previous reviews that dislike the lack of technical analysis, especially in the beginning of the book. However, I must say that this book is about how someone could make a living by trading in the stock market, including setting up his own home office, incorporating, among other things not directly associated to trading stocks or options.

If you're brand new to trading and options, then this book may be a below average introduction. I've traded for years, and am sending this book back. If you're brand new to trading and options, then this book may be a below average introduction. I've traded for years, and am sending this book back. The author speaks of all of the advantantages of high risk option & stock trades, but doesn't adequately note the risk or the steps to get out of a bad position. If all trades were sure things, you wouldn't need a book. Read "Trading For a Living" by Elder if you want to learn something, or something by Pring or Murphy about technical analysis.

I've read some of the previous reviews that dislike the lack of technical analysis, especially in the beginning of the book. However, I must say that this book is about how someone could make a living by trading in the stock market, including setting up his own home office, incorporating, among other things not directly associated to trading stocks or options.

With that said, I believe this book is quite good. Its main objective is to give a trading novice a solid footing in what it takes to make a living by trading in the stock and options markets. It is a fast read that does not delve too much into the products Mr. Eldridge's company sells, but stays with the point of the book.

If you're looking for in-depth technical analysis of stocks, you might be disappointed in this book. However, if you're looking for a quick read that could benefit your portfolio or might quicken your transition from your day job to trading full-time, this is the book for you.

This review is from: Making a Living in the Stock Market (Hardcover)
This book is incredible!! The author took me from absolute zero knowledge about the stock market to a high level of understanding of three basic strategies in a matter of hours! It is written in clear, concise language easily understood by the beginner and should be required reading for anyone entering the market for the first time!

I've been studying these kinds of strategies for a couple of months. I wish this book was out when I started. I could have saved myself a lot of time and effort just reading this book. Be nice to see more books writen by this author.

2.0 out of 5 stars As basic as it gets..., July 20, 2004
This review is from: Making a Living in the Stock Market (Hardcover)
Could the people with an interest in the sale of this book please stop writing ridiculous one sentence reviews praising this very basic book! The reason most of the reviews of this book are one sentence is because it is the same person trying to restate biased praise. If you are absolutely brand new to trading, this book is fair...but beware. This book was suggested to me by a sales rep. at Wade Cook and you know what happened to him. That affiliation alone should scare you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, July 7, 2009
This review is from: Making a Living in the Stock Market (Hardcover)
I gained much knowledge and confidence to be able to set aside money and begin using the stock market as a business. However, this book was written in 1998, and it mentions some technological processes and software that are somewhat obsolete today. Other than that, this book has a wealth of knowledge and information necessary for the reader to do what he did and make money doing it.

This review is from: Making a Living in the Stock Market (Hardcover)
This book is a great book for someone who has NO knowledge of stock market trading. It gives some very good basic information about trading as a business and the rudiments of strategies for trading stocks and options. However, this book was written 10 years ago and is mostly outdated.

I have just finished a 3 month on-line trading class led by Mr. Eldridge and he does not currently use ANY of the strategies mentioned in his book. Need I say more? Save your money unless you are looking for a very basic primer on trading.
