Book Description

November 15, 2006
This audio book (2 CDs) is the text of Barry Long's ground-breaking book with the same title, read by the author. Long maintained that his speaking voice transmitted more of the truth behind his words than the printed page alone - and this is more noticeable with such an intimate subject as sexual love. Beginning with an almost mythical account of what love was like when mankind was new to this planet, Long lays bare the dishonesty which infects sexual love today. He then gives us a lesson in right love-making, describes the difference between love and sex and offers advice about common sexual problems.

About the Author

By the end of his life Barry Long was recognised by many thousands of people around the world as a genuine spiritual master. Born in 1926 in Australia, he was in his thirties before he realized there was more to life than worldly success. He was the editor of a Sydney Sunday newspaper - 'Truth' - but it wasn't the media's truth he was interested in. Leaving everything behind Australia, he sought the truth of life, at first alone in the Himalayas and then for ten years in London. He started teaching public meetings in 1982 and year by year more and more people discovered him. Barry Long was best known for his teachings on the love between man and woman. His radical and honest approach to love and sex as an essential part of the spiritual life is at once unsettling and inspiring. In 1984 he released his 'Making Love' tapes which were quickly copied and spread around the world, especially by followers of Osho (Rajneesh). Many couples from many countries travelled to Barry Long's seminars in Australia to hear him speak about love and sex. His reputation grew during the 1990s, especially because he was unusually frank about what it means to be a tantric master.

More About the Author

Barry Long (1926-2003) was a writer and spiritual teacher with an original and challenging way of communicating age-old truths.

Born and raised in Australia he started out as a junior journalist and became the youngest-ever editor of a Sydney Sunday tabloid, somewhat prophetically called 'Truth'. At that time spiritual truth was far from his mind, but in his early 30s, the ambitious and successful family man began to question all his values. For some years his inner pain and suffering increased. Eventually, in 1965, he fled Australia and went to India. After many adventures, alone in the Himalayas he experienced what he called a 'mystic death', or the realization of immortality. This was the real beginning of his journey towards 'the unfathomable mystery of God or Life and that other divine mystery of true love between man and woman'.

He wrote of his insights and realizations and for thirty years gave talks and seminars in many countries. He inspired and guided many thousands of men and women without wanting to create a big organization or attract personal fame. He was concerned with the individual, not society. He taught that the way to truth and the reality of love is through direct experience, not belief or imagination; and that freedom comes from taking responsibility for one's own life. He was fulfilled by the prospect that one day someone might hear the truth from him and be able to live it. Evidently very many did. His legacy may be seen in their lives and in the work of some of those he inspired, including other teachers, notably Eckhart Tolle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making love true again, March 19, 2002

I have been waiting all my life for this book!
This is nothing less than a life changing book. What Barry Long has to say about love is so important in these times, this is what everyone wants but no one knows how to make real.
My partner and I have put his teaching into practice and have found a totally different perception of love, and each other opening up to us. It's so beautiful! I am so grateful to Barry Long and amazed that more people aren't aware of this whole other spiritual dimension to making love. i would say that if you want this deeper, more real sort of love in your life you've really got to go for it and your partner too, otherwise it's just another book and you won't 'get' it. But even if you're single, you should read this book! If i had read this years ago i could have saved myself a lot of heartache. And if you are in partnership and you try this, it will make your love grow in a way you could not imagine.
I can't recommend this book enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars New doors opened to remembering what we are: love., July 23, 1999
This review is from: Making Love (Perfect Paperback)
The book shows very clear and to the point where we go wrong in love-making and what we can do to change it into a complete and fulfilling experience of love. I hope more men will be man enough to read it and come out honest to experience love together with their partner(s). Thanks for sharing Barry Long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Book!, December 21, 2004
This review is from: Making Love (Perfect Paperback)
This book gave me integrity and new purpose in relating to women. I can't say enough-maybe the most life expanding book I've had the pleasure to read. First time I ever read a book straight through twice.

I feel rejunvinated in my ability to give love deeply and unselfishly.
