GREAT CD!,

This is a great CD showing Lynn's versatility. It is a mixture of true Pedal Steel Country and two or three tunes that don't seem to fit into the mix. I don't like "Love the Day Away", "When We Get Back Together" or "I Don't Want to Hear it Anymore". They seem sadly out of place with the rest of the music which is pure Country...especially a dag gone good Loretta Lynn tune entitled "Then I'll Be Free". If this song had been released during her peak years in the early 70's this song would have hit number one!! Her vocal and the production here is outstanding!!!!! Also great is the title cut, and "There's All Kinds of Smoke in the Barroom", a great country shuffle tune!!! Produced by the one and only Owen Bradley this is a CD that will disappoint none of Loretta's admirers. There may be better Lynn CDs out there but this one holds up fine on its own merits, the three mediocre songs I mentioned up there notwithstanding!

GREAT CD FROM LORETTA'S LATER CAREER,

This CD is a forgotten gem! Produced by the one and only Owen Bradley, there is no filler here. Every cut is great, some better than others, but definitely keepers. Unfortunately, at the time of this release, Loretta was not being promoted anymore. So it didn't even chart. The title single "Making Love From Memory" is hauntingly beautiful, but only charted at #19 on Billboard. "There's All Kinds of Smoke in the Barroom" is a great country shuffle tune that should have been released as a single. There's a little bit of everything here but plenty of pedal steel to keep things moving along greatly in the country vein. Compared to today's wafer thing country offerings, this CD is as country as ducks sitting on the window sill.

I LOVE THIS CD!!,

This is the first Loretta Lynn CD whose title track single did not make the top ten when it was released in 1982. "Making Love From Memory" is a beautiful song sung as only Loretta could sing it! Owen Bradley's presence is felt throughout. Loretta's vocals are superb. I'll agree that one song "Love the Day Away" could easily have been replaced. Songs like "When We Get Back Together", "I Don't Want to Hear it Anymore" and "Deeper and Deeper" don't fit in with the style of the opening tunes. But when Loretta sings its from the heart, so it is easy to overlook inconsistencies. Why they chose "Breakin' It" to be the follow up single to "Memory" is a mystery. It only reached #39 down 20 points from "Memory" which made it to number 19 on the charts. "Memory" should have been a top ten. "Breakin' It" is a good song but if it could have been better produced, I think it would have done better for Loretta. The production on this particular song is rather bland....especially the ending....you expect more but you don't get more.....that's probably why the single fizzled out at #39. It did well to get that far. The best cut on the project is Loretta's own composition "Then You'll be Free"...a testament to empty nesters who have nothing left to hold them together. Loretta's vocal is so spectacular on this that this would have surely made the top ten if not #1, had it been released and promoted properly. This collection of songs is great because Loretta makes them great. As I said, only "Love the Day Away" should have been eliminated. This CD is one of my favorites!!

Thanks for the cd. It's hard to find some music by Loretta Lynn. There were two hits from this 1982 album, and while neither of them were really big, they were still chart makers. Those two songs are "Making Love from Memory" and "Breakin' It". It's good to hear these on a cd. This album sounds great and will be a great addition to my collection. Thanks again!

This album was recorded at a time when her record company wanted her to record more pop sounding sounds. The result is an album that doesn't represent the typical Loretta Lynn sound or material. There aren't any forgotten Loretta Lynn hits to be found on this album, and with so many wonderful Loretta Lynn albums yet to be released, I wonder why this album was selected. Vocals and production are first rate, the material is not. This makes a good addition to round out a Loretta Lynn album collection, however, for the casual Loretta Lynn purchaser the better albums are: Coal Miner's Daughter and Loretta Lynn Sings the Hits of Patsy Cline. Perhaps another reviewer will have a more positive response to this album.
