I have long been an admirer of the Marines and this video provides a unique look into their training and to some degree their culture. Well worth the money. A video collection about the Marine Corps is not complete without it.

While this documentary about Marine Corps boot camp is pretty good, I have seen better.
If you want to see EXACTLY how a Marine Corps D.I. is get the R rated documentary "Ears Open,Eyeballs Click" It's a bit more intense than is shown in "The Making of a Marine" which is kind of tamed down for the masses.

Excellent!,
This review is from: The Making of a Marine (DVD)
I recently viewed this program while my son was in boot camp at Parris Island. I found it to be very informative and extremely well done. I don't usually write reviews but I just saw a review where someone called this a "ripoff". I find it hard to believe that a person who claims to be a future Marine could be so critical of this program. I know the folks who produced this film and they are Marine through and through. This movie is actually a remake of their earlier 1995 program by the same name. That is to say, it was done long before Discovery did their program. In closing I would just like to say that this program is highly recommended for any parent who has a child thinking of entering the Marine Corps. It is splendid.

If only I could sign up again. It's been more than a few years since I wore the Marine Corps green and I'd kind of lost touch. Recently I purchased this video to see if old memories were rekindled. WOW!!! Boot Camp is still tough. This video really shows the hardships and physical challenges of becoming a Marine. Highly recommended. Teachers, guidance counselors, and school administrators everywhere should make sure your students see this video when undecided with their career choice. Forty years later, I have no regrets and wish I could serve again. Tell everyone you know about this video. I feel really proud to have found it.

This is an excellent video on Marine Corps Recruit Training. Anyone considering joining the USMC, their families or just anyone interested would be well served by this film.
The Discovery Channel 3-hour film on recruit training is just better. Nothing wrong with this and it isnt as long but given the choice I would choose the Discovery Channel video.

A Good Presentation of the new Corps, but the Ole' Corps was also extremely effective...,

I served in the Corps from '58 to '62, and I have witnessed a lot of changes in the interim. I served in the Corps during the cold war, and did not participate in combat, although I (like all Marines) was certainly trainned to wade into the enemy and cause major damage. That's the Marine Corps way, of course. The new Corps, which is still America's 911 force, is an up-to-date malitia which can respond immediately to any problems around the globe. I really respect our current Marines, but at the same time, I would like to emphasize the basic trainning and effectiveness of the "Ole Corps". You see the old Corps Marines kicked the Japanese square in the rump in WWII. Thank GOD for our Marines, as this country would be in trouble without a shock force that can take the battle to the enemy in short time. So, in analysis of the "Making of a Marine", I give this documentary a 4 (out of 5) as I think it is a bit slanted towards the new (and great) Corps. I am very proud in that the Marine Corps Boot Camp is still a very tough objective for anyone thinking they can become one of "the few, the proud, the Marines" in a short time. It still requires total devotion (mentally, morally and physically) to the standards of the United States Marine Corps. In summation, I think this presentation of basic trainning (the Making of a Marine)in the Marine Corps is very accurate. I only wish I could re-enlist. GUNG-HO !!!!

U.S. Marine Corps boot camp,
By
This review is from: The Making of a Marine (DVD)
The video does a good job of documenting Marine Corps boot camp but does not do as good a job as "The Crucible". Recommended for those interested in Marine Corps recruit training. The video only covers enlisted boot camp; those interested in Officer Candidate School will have to seek that insight elsewhere.

I highly recommend this DVD to anyone thinking of joining the Marine Corps and especially for parents who have a son or daughter thinking of joining the Corps. I viewed this program recently and I feel very proud of the young men and women who take up this challenge. I served briefly in the mid-70s and I was curious as to how things have changed. It's still tough. My nephew leaves for boot camp in March. I feel better knowing that my Corps is still the Corps I knew. Also, an earlier reviewer mentioned that the Crucible was not included on this DVD. He must not have seen this version, because it is very definitely there and is extremely well done. Most impressive. Semper Fi.

One of the best programs I've seen about the Marine Corps,

Without a doubt, this is one of the best programs I've ever seen about Marine Corps boot camp. I bought this DVD to see the bonus feature about boot camp at San Diego in the 1950s. Turns out that I was fascinated by both. To see how it was and how it is, I must tell you I feel confident that our new generation of Marines will do a great job. You sense the pride in these young men and women as they become Marines.I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in joining the Marine Corps and especially for the parents of future Marines. Our country is in great hands. God bless America and our Corps. Semper Fi.

My girlfriends brother was recently shipped off to boot camp in California. Her 6 year old son has been missing him and is always asking questions about what his Uncle is doing, having never been in boot camp before, I am unable to explain to him exactly what it entails. I am trying to find a documentary on Marine Boot Camp that is on the 'tame' side. I want the little guy to see what his uncle is doing, but on the other hand, I do not want to scare the crap out of him. Is this DVD what I am looking for, or should I continue my search? (Please excuse my rating, I have not watched this yet.)
