About the Author

Chuck Holton is a bestselling author, international reporter, photographer, video producer, public speaker, adventurer, businessman, husband and father of five children. After serving eight years in the U.S. Army – four with the Elite 75th Ranger Regiment and four flying helicopters as an Aeroscout Observer in the National Guard, Chuck went on to a successful career as a stockbroker. Ten years later he began to feel compelled to spend more time with his family, so he left Wall Street behind to become a full-time writer. Chuck is now the author of seven books including Making Men, Bulletproof, A More Elite Soldier, Stories from a Soldier’s Heart and the Task Force Valor series. He also collaborates with LtCol Oliver North (USMC Retired) on the New York Times bestselling American Heroes series of books. As a war correspondent and freelance video producer, Chuck travels to more than a dozen of the world's hot zones each year. He frequently speaks to churches and other organizations around the world on the topics of Biblical manhood, life structuring, adoption, homeschooling and other charitable and patriotic causes. When he is not traveling, he spends time at his farm in Appalachia with Connie and their five children. Chuck accepts a limited number of speaking engagements per year. My son served in the same US Army Ranger unit as Chuck Holton. He had the good fortune to come across another one of Holton's books, A More Elite Soldier, during a very formidable time in his training. This book had a tremendous effect on his life and became a secondary bible that he always carried with him. My son shared his impressions with me and I, in turn became an instant fan of Chuck Holton. My son admired Holton greatly and used his wisdom to help steer and shape the journey he was on.
He lost his life during his third tour of duty at the age of 21. Shortly thereafter I received my son's journal which did not contain his private thoughts, but words of wisdom from Holton's book copied verbatim. I then had the good fortune of meeting Holton in person ten months later at a memorial event for Special Operations soldiers who had lost their lives during the previous year. Imagine my surprise when Holton shared with me that he knew my sons story and knew it well. He told me he admired him and was including him in an upcoming book, American Heroes in Special Operations. It was an emotional meeting and I found myself in complete awe! Here I was standing face to face with a man my son deeply respected and admired and he tells me he shares the same sentiment about my son.
When I got word that Making Men was close to it's release date, I made sure to get on the list for the early sale notice. I was very excited to read another one of Holtons books. When it arrived in my mailbox I immediately sat down and began to read it. I devoured this book in two sittings and then re-read it again. I was blown away. I shouldn't have been. It didn't contain anything that was surprising to me or any great revelations.

I'm tying to figure out the best way to do a review of Chuck Holton's new book "Making Men". You may think that only fellows should read this, but that's not so. I'm a divorced, single mom. One of the main themes in this book is the value of valuing your wife and family. If you value your wife and children, I would really suggest that you read this book. And ladies - many of the managing life principles can be used by us, to make our life better; and to see if a fellow is a Man and not just a guy.
Worth reading and re-reading.

I read Mr. Holton's book a More Elite Solder, so I was very interested when his new book Making Men
came out. He does something in this book that has been long in coming. He calls men back to the
role God gave them from the beginning. Please understand this is not another "men are evil" kind of book. This is about a fundamental change in perspective, a true paradigm shift.

Making Men charges men to be Godly leaders. Mr. Holton shows the importance of men being responsible for their children's spiritual training. Making Men helps to remove the modern culture's counterfeit model of manhood. It talks about God's call for
men to lead their boys into Biblical maturity.
Making Men illustrates the necessity for men to lead lives edifying to themselves and the community. Making Men shows
fathers what a privilege it is to guide a son into manhood, a journey into maturity. This shared adventure
is a gift fathers give to sons presided over by the Heavenly Father. It must be noted that this book would
be especially useful to step dads and those helping to fill an important void in a young man's life. I would
recommend this, and have, to friends.

I think wives should give this book to their husbands with a note saying, "This is a gift to our future daughter-in-law."

Your mission, should you choose to accept it: Put down the joystick, shut off the computer screen, step out from behind your wife's skirt and change the world. How? By raising up a new generation of men that know what it means to be a man. Chuck Holton captures the essence of what it takes to take a boy from childhood to manhood. This book is a practical guide to any man looking for guidance on how to raise a man to be all he can be for the Lord. It also is helpful as a how-to guide on growing up into a real man no matter what your age is. This book is a well-written, concise guide on real manhood. It is a breath of fresh air in a society that seeks to effeminate mankind. Cudos on a job well done, Chuck!

MAKING MEN by Chuck Holton is the kind of book that dads and men need to read every so often. You can do a great job being a father, and a husband, and a man, but sometimes you just need a refresher. You need to be reminded about what the Bible says about being a man and being a leader. This book is perfect for that.

Holton's acronym for being a man is SHAPE. A chapter is devoted to each of these letters. You'll get chapters titled: Submit, Assess and Improve, Perish and Provide, and Engage. Holton uses plenty of scripture to reinforce the Bible's view of what a man should be, and he includes several stories.

This book isn't directly a book on being a father to your boys, but it can help with that. It is more about being a man that is Godly and capable of leading his family, or others. This is a short, easy, read that should help and encourage any man that reads it. I definitely learned a few things I hope to apply in my life, and that's all you can hope for. In spite of the incredibly poor formatting of the text, this book is a great one.
