Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Coxon gives patterns for making 50 small crafts: tray, jigsaw, and stacking puzzles; birds and animals; counting toys; games; and action toys such as cars. He gives instructions for using basic hand toolsfret, coping, and back saws, and drills. The simple designs are easy to cut, but many require drawing and painting to be really effective. Should appeal to those who like to make toys for kids or to sell at flea markets. Recommended. To Lyons, "miniature" means approximately one-half the size of regular furniturenot "doll-house" miniatures. The author's two-dozen plans for tables, beds, chests, cupboards, and chairs include detailed drawings, a bill of materials, construction steps, and a photo of the finished item. Since all are copies of antiques, the book gives a "historical" note about each piece. Half-size furniture should appeal to children, collectors, and o craftspeople who are intrigued by the greater precision required in quality miniature woodworking. Recommended. W.T. Johnston, formerly with Coastal Plain Regional Lib., Tifton, Ga.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fine reference book in a limited field, April 27, 2006

In a field with no published works on making fine doll furniture, this is a gem. Keep in mind that these plans are for 20-30 inch dolls. The basic information is explained, but some basic woodworking skills will be needed. The measurements are quite valuable and illustrated plans are good, and one should take note of the doll sizes that will match the scale. All the furniture plans are colonial reproductions. If time and care is taken using these plans, very fine heirlooms can be created for those little girls in the family.

This book has those things that are very hard to find: excellent plans for doll-sized furniture and good instruction on how to make them.
