Paperback: 398 pages
Publisher: Howard Jones; 2nd edition (August 17, 2010)
Carpenter, accountant, auditor, consultant, farmer, entrepreneur, real estate professional, teacher, author and now publisher. "This is my first foray into publishing but I thought that I needed to share my book with others" says Howard Jones, the author of Making Money on Your Vacation Rental Home. Howard is a CPA and licensed real estate broker with an MBA who has owned and managed his own vacation rental homes at the beach and in the mountains. "I am confident that it will be a welcome guide to many cash strapped owners of vacation and second homes in this difficult real estate environment. Of course, I have to get the word out!"
Howard is a former Big Accounting Firm consultant who loves to give advice. "My friends call me IKE which stands for I Know Everything, which is their way of trying to be funny!" Subtitled An Essential Handbook for Managing Your Short Term Vacation and Resort Rental Property for Maximum Enjoyment and Profit, this comprehensive 400 page "how to" handbook includes a chapter by chapter guide for rental home owners who wish to take advantage of the new opportunity that has emerged in recent years to self manage their rentals by using commercial rental web sites. "Traditional property management companies provide a valuable service to those who can't or don't wish to manage their own homes, but at a substantial price" says the author. "The new internet opportunity enables many owners to double net income and achieve other substantial benefits while still offering schedule flexibility and mobility. I recall handling a rental while I was staying in Yellowstone Lodge! And even if you use a property management company, there are many, many things that you can do to improve your rental experience."
Howard is the founder and owner of Vacation Home Advisors, a website creation and hosting company for owners of vacation rental homes, and VHA Seminars through which he teaches hundreds of students every year. Mr. Jones may be contacted through his website at www.VacationHomeAdvisors.com.
This book has helped me be more confident in my vacation rental business, especially in the "Laws and Regulations" section and the "Income Taxes for Rental Owners". There is also a section on Landlord Expense deductions which is a great guideline to use before visiting your tax accountant.

This book had lots to the point information. Not just a book that kept telling you over and over how great having a vacation rental was. Very very informative on how manage your vacation rental. Also very good info on tax treatment. Well worth the price of the book.
