Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

This volume, which tackles an enormously complex subject, has the look and heft of a college textbook, yet remains accessible and intriguing. Beginning with the notion that "most of us never stretch our brain beyond a fraction of its vast potential," the book delves into memory, the mind-body connection and the difference between the conscious and the unconscious brain. Each section is subdivided into more specific topics, such as Personality and Health and Techniques to Improve Memory. Sidebars, mental exercises, quizzes, quotes, tip lists and stories from real lives enliven and enlarge the text. One particularly good "Fact File" debunks four stress myths in a helpful, productive way. Simply skimming this book certainly engages the brain, and completing some of the interactive features makes for thought-provoking entertainment.

This review is from: Making The Most of Your Brain (Hardcover)
I found this book in the discount bin at a bookstore and I'll tell you...it's the best six dollars I ever spent! This is one of the most engaging and well written books about the human brain I've ever read. There are lots of memory activities and innovative ways to bring out the creativity in yourself. What I really like about this book is that is has many real life stories used as examples to emphasize certain points made in the book.

This book covers everything from using your brain for wellness, increased memory capacity, the conscious and unconscious mind, how hypnosis works and even details about the brains of children and babies. It covers memory techniques used throughout the ages and even how the brain works in animals!

This is one of my favorite contemporary books in my library! Highly recommended.
