5.0 out of 5 stars It's About Time, February 8, 2000
By Jean May "jeanemay" (Houston, Texas) - See all my reviews
Lettice Stuart understands the complexities of making a move as a child and as a parent facing the inevitable. Her guide to seniors and their children is intended to clarify difficult issues and define the process that we must all go through, making the complex simple, the foreign familiar.

Anyone who has reached middle age (dreading the new mail, unsolicited, from AARP), will most likely still bear responsibility for a parent who is at least 20 years older, and Stuart's book helps inform and arm the child of an aging parent for the struggle that both will face, willy nilly.

Stuart's organization is clear, her definitions precise (helping us distinguish among many slippery terms for each of many critical categories of understanding this process of transition), and her resolve absolute: we will all face this challenge, whether we wish to or not, and those of us who face it with knowledge and foresight will be in a position to find not only succor but happiness.

This seems like a tall order to fill, but just wait until it is your turn. Words that seem foreign will suddenly ring true, and concepts that you never imagined possible in your situation will become clear and manageable.

I wish that I had Lettice Stuart on my shoulder the whole way though the process of transitioning a loved, aging parent into the next exciting phase of life. But having her tidy, lucid paperback in my pocket is the next best thing!

Jean May
