So you fancy yourself a filmmaker? Here to ensure that you truly are is a simple, to-the-point guide that leads you through the process of creating your very first digital video project with Adobe's brand-new consumer-level video editing software, Premiere Elements ($99). In these pages veteran author and PC Magazine contributing editor Jan Ozer gets right to the point: Rather than explore every option and feature of Premiere Elements, Jan uses project-based instruction and big, colorful screen shots to demonstrates the quickest, easiest, and smartest route to cinematic success. Each short lesson builds on the last as you learn how to capture and import video; add transitions, titles and effects; take advantage of the program's stunning templates; use the program with Photoshop Elements to edit and incorporate still images; and output your finished video to DVD. The book's small size and even smaller price ($12.99) make it the perfect entry point into the world of digital filmmaking as well as the ideal jumping-off point for further exploration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great overview of a complex product, June 10, 2005

This review is from: Making a Movie in Premiere Elements: Visual QuickProject Guide (Paperback)
This book is required reading for someone taking on Premiere Elements for the first time. The program is a slightly dumbed-down version of their professional video editor, so there are tons of features and it can be quite overwhelming for the software novice. Adobe's manual and help files are severely lacking, to say the least. That's where this book comes in handy -- all of the main features are covered in clear, understandible text augmented by photos in the Visual Quickproject format. It is an easy read to go all the way through beforehand, and it's a good reference for solving particular problems once you are deep into the program.

I also read the PE for Dummies book, but I found Jan Ozer's guide provided a better overall picture of the features and functions, as well as a good understanding of how and why certain features should be used. And the photos which show you exactly what to do are a huge help in navigating a complicated user interface. A critical companion to an incredibly functional but intimidating piece of software.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read This Book First, August 27, 2005
This review is from: Making a Movie in Premiere Elements: Visual QuickProject Guide (Paperback)
This is the first book you should read to become proficient with Premiere Elements. It covers all the features of the program that you need to get started. The topics are presented in a clear and precise way which enable you to effectively accomplish your video production project. It is so well written, you will be able to read the entire book quickly providing you with an excellent overview of the Premiere Elements program. Once you have a good overview, the manual and help tools may actually be beneficial for details. Given the inexpensive price, it is a great value.

2.0 out of 5 stars Visual QuickProject Guide, August 13, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Making a Movie in Premiere Elements: Visual QuickProject Guide (Paperback)
Disappointed to find this was for the earlier version of Premiere Elements and it did not contain the new important features. The classroom training book by Adobe is far better.
