I've watched this movie many many times and each time I fall in love with Ulysses and wish I could find someone like him, even if he's all nuts and bolts.
Maybe someday us ladies can have a guy made to our own specifications and know that he will be a winner everytime!! So I've added this movie to my vast collection of much loved movies! Way to go Frankie Stone..

An 80's comic masterpiece!,

This movie is absolutely hilarious, with moments that make you laugh out loud. I saw this movie when I was younger and I loved it. It's the type of movie, that after you're done watching it, just makes you feel good. Ann Magnuson is spectcular, her character is trendy, sexy and witty. John Malkovitch shines in this movie. It's one of the few performances of his that I do enjoy. Laurie Metcalf is dynomite! A VERY under-rated actress, Laurie is an incredibly funny woman and a true master of her craft. She steals the movie in her portayal of Sandra. "I told you to call me Sandy!!!!!!"

One of my personal favorites...,

I absolutely love this movie and recommend it to all my friends. This movie is very funny but romantic and warm as well. It reminds me of the screwball comedies from the 1930's and 40's. I very much like the stylized look of this movie. It has a very 60's meets 80's feel to it with a touch of futuristic space age mixed in. John Malkovich is so funny, charming and warm in this movie that it's hard to believe that this is the same actor who now does "serious" work. Ann Magnuson is very comedic, pretty and good, that it makes me wonder why she did not become a bigger star like Meg Ryan. I was quite excited when this movie was released on dvd. However, I was disappointed because the dvd really does not have any extra features over the vhs edition that I already owned. The movie gets 5 stars but this dvd format only gets 3 stars.

This is a GREAT UNDER-RATED little 80's flick that I think more peolpe would enjoy if they just gave it a chance! All of the characters are so great and funny! I've never heard of Ann Magnusen but let me just say that she's great! So is John Malkovich! He plays 2 completely different charcters and does it very well! So just give this movie a chance! If I liked it, I'm sure you would too!

Magnuson and Malkovich Magic,

This movie is a treat! I don't see how anyone with a heart wouldn't like this movie. It is very sweet, funny and touching. John Malkovich is totally hiliarious in both his roles and Magnuson is great as Ulysses' love interest. Anne was perfect in her role as Frankie Stone, the sexy, smart and witty PR executive hired to fix and promote Jeff Peterson's Ulysses android mission to space.
This movie has laugh out loud moments. Seeing Jeff's reaction to Frankie's accidental influence on Ulysses is priceless. "My God, she's turning you into a hooker!!" SPOILER------------------------ The twist at the end is perfect, especially seeing as how all along Jeff was the one more interested and basically primed for space. Ulysses just wanted to be human and loved. And he was the perfect "man" for Frankie. The dvd transfer is perfect. I recommend buying it, especially if you are fan of the movie.

What a sweet, little, feel-good piece of comedy!,
This review is from: Making Mr. Right [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a really great movie, worth seeing if only to witness John Malkovich playing against type. In the dual role of both the creator and creation, Malkovich is careful to keep their personalities entirely separate. Whilst Dr Peters is arrogant and dispassionate, Ulysses is gentle and sensitive. I love the way the android grows during the course of the movie, from child-like innocence to loving tenderness. The movie keeps you guessing to a certain extent as to who Ann Magnuson's character will end up with, but it is great how it all comes to a head in that magical scene, when the two of them kiss for the first time. It is deeply moving and gently humourous, with neither outweighing the other. See it!

Making Mr. Right is great movie. It's not a chick flick, even my boyfriend enjoyed the movie and got some good laughs from it. Very entertaining, comical, and a unique story line. I recommend it highly.

I'm pretty big on science fiction, and where this one doesn't have any heroics or shoot 'em stuff, it's still kind of a nice little film. Definately a chick-flick, one wonders how the film might've ended up had a guy directed it. Right now it's all cutesy and romantic. Malkovich's characters are endearing to the female mind, and we get the dichotomy of a man divided. His less sure and more intellectual half winds up with his dream, and his more down to earth side winds up with the girl.
I saw this film many many years ago, but only in bits and pieces. For the first time I'm finally able to see the whole film. It's not a stellar achievement in film making, but it's got a certain appeal. Because it is a woman directing the thing we get a romantic tale dealing with the emotional development between the characters and their relationships. If a dude had directed the thing, it would've been heavy on the heavy-romance, deep, emotional and angst ridden. Which is better? Well, in spite of the fact that I've bought and written a lot of chick flick stuff as of recent, Im not really a chick flick dude. I keep hoping to gleam something interesting form the fairer sexes viewpoint. And I have, but that information is that some films should've have been directed by men. This one almost makes me thing that. But, because it is a comedy I cut it some slack, and so should everyone else. In that vein it's kid of a cute little film, as was the intent. But it's almost a bit too cute for its own good. It doesn't get campy enough, in my opinion to be the film that it truly wanted to be, but succeeds regardless. Malkovich does an excellent job of his duel roles, and Ann Magnuson is very good as the high powered marketer. In fact the entire cast is very good, and we get some pretty decent comedy from the supports. All in all an okay watch. An android/robot film told from the female perspective.

Always a great and delightful movie even if it is now old. It will never win a Oscar, but, that's entertainment! The sister had the ugliest wedding dress I have ever seen! The mother was more beautiful than the bride! Even Frankie looked good! lol
