5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and informative book!
Whether you are a beginner or a skilled artist, this book is a must. Not only is Rotraut Schrott an amazing artist, her step-by-step instructional photos are very clear and concise. Even if you are not an artist, the photos of her "children" will amaze you. Ms. Schrott creates the most life-like figures I have ever seen. She does not use molds of any kind...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very instructive
I found this book to be very disappointing. With a title like "Making Origninal portrait Dolls in Cernit" one would expect a bit more instruction. Amounts of Cernit needed for the project would be very helpful...but this info is lacking as is much more about working with this polymer clay. What is not lacking is a complete history of Rotraut Schrott doll making...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very instructive, May 9, 2002

This review is from: Making Original & Portrait Dolls in Cernit (Hardcover)
I found this book to be very disappointing. With a title like "Making Origninal portrait Dolls in Cernit" one would expect a bit more instruction. Amounts of Cernit needed for the project would be very helpful...but this info is lacking as is much more about working with this polymer clay. What is not lacking is a complete history of Rotraut Schrott doll making endeavors, her inspiration, her abilites and where they came from. This book is a sad disappointment. Not recommended for those who truely would like to learn how to work with Cernit in dollmaking. Lot's of pretty doll pictures though......

If you are looking for good instructions, it's not in this book. Mainly pictures of her dolls and a basic guide to modeling the Cernit.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing gaps in instructions, July 21, 1999

This review is from: Making Original & Portrait Dolls in Cernit (Hardcover)
While the photos are great the accompanying instructions are only fair. I was left with a lot of unanswered questions regarding detailed techniques.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and informative book!, August 23, 1998

Whether you are a beginner or a skilled artist, this book is a must. Not only is Rotraut Schrott an amazing artist, her step-by-step instructional photos are very clear and concise. Even if you are not an artist, the photos of her "children" will amaze you. Ms. Schrott creates the most life-like figures I have ever seen. She does not use molds of any kind. Each portrait figure is done entirely by hand, right down to the last detail of the clothing. She captures the soul of the child and conveys it in the expressions on their faces. It is hard to belive that the children in the beautiful, full color photos are not real. I can't say enough about this artist or this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book...great technique!, December 12, 2010

This review is from: Making Original & Portrait Dolls in Cernit (Hardcover)
This book has become one of my all-time favorite doll artist books...and I own ALOT! Rotraut is a master artist and very generous in sharing her technique. I wouldn't recommend this book to beginners...however I purchased it when I began sculpting dolls. I am glad I did! I started my doll career using her technique and I still use it for my large dolls. If you are serious about a career as a doll artist, this book should be part of your library!
