A Must Read for The Spirutal Seeker,
By Jeanine M. Austin "Jeanine Austin, PhD, CHt" (Paradise Valley, Arizona) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Making Peace with God: The Journey of a Course in Miracles Student (Paperback)
I simply could not put this book down. I highly recommend this book to any serious spiritual seeker. Ms. Edward's journey has been a compelling and deeply introspective one. This book will take you on a wonderful quest from the innocent ideas about spirituality to a real homecoming to truth and love. This is a wonderfully written offering. If you are interested in metaphysics and particularly A Course in Miracles, this book should not be missed.

A Journey to Peace,
By
This review is from: Making Peace with God: The Journey of a Course in Miracles Student (Paperback)
This is a story of how one woman made her way through the trials and tribulations of life to a place of peace and understanding within herself. Pauline Edward beautifully tells her story of how she came from feeling lost and separate to complete trust that all is well regardless of what appears to happening in the world. She shows us that it is quite possible to reach God/awareness because it is in fact the most natural thing in the world. If you ever wondered how to be really alive and completely at peace be sure to read this story.

This review is from: Making Peace with God: The Journey of a Course in Miracles Student (Paperback)
Making Peace With God is a terrific companion for any new age seeker turned Course In Miracles Student. Pauline Edward's book takes us on the familiar life path of many spiritual seekers who start off dismayed and discouraged by religious teachings - in Pauline's case she grew up a Catholic. In search of true peace, ike so many others before and since, Pauline explores one teaching after another and remains unsatisfied until she begins to really LIVE the teachings of A Course In Miracles.
Pauline is a very bright and thoughtful person who has a strong thirst for truth that cannot be quenched by anything less than true peace. She takes her readers on the journey with her as she moves through the spiritual buffet line studying one teaching after another including: Numerology, Astrology, Palmistry, Reiki, Flower Essences, Silva Mind Control and more. It is precisely because Pauline has so much in common with so many of us that she makes such a worthwhile companion for her audience. In Making Peace With God, Pauline is authentic and transparent as she shares her challenges with her marriages and relationships; the intensity of her physical health trials and suffering and even the death of her beloved cat, Bubby. Little by little she moves beyond an intellectual acceptance of the Course teachings and into a true practice of living the teachings. Through it all Pauline deepens, as any dedicated Course student must, in her relationship with the Holy Spirit and her willingness to see clearly increases. Her challenges become breakthroughs and she discovers that peace is already here. For anyone who struggles with whether or not the teachings of A Course In Miracles and disappearance Of The Universe are true, for anyone who struggles to actually - as I say it, PARTNER UP! with the Holy Spirit - this book will provide encouraging companionship. I recommend Making Peace With God to anyone who would like good company on the path!

Pauline's book charts her dedicated journey to find a spiritual teaching that would serve to heal and awaken her. For Pauline, finding 'A Course in Miracles' is the culmination of her journey. In the later part of her book she clearly explains many aspect of the Course's teachings (with examples from her own life), which will be of help to students new to the Course. An inspiring and enjoyable book which will encourage others on their spiritual journey.

Seeking and finding divine connection,
By
This review is from: Making Peace with God: The Journey of a Course in Miracles Student (Paperback)
In the memoir Making Peace with God: The Journey of A Course in Miracles Student, Montreal author Pauline Edward recounts her yearning for divine connection beginning in childhood and continuing through adolescence and adulthood. Raised Catholic and certain at an early age that there was something more to this world than concrete experience had revealed, she sets about seeking for a better way, embracing several metaphysical disciplines including astrology and numerology while also searching for spiritual union within romantic relationship. The ultimate failure of anything outside herself to permanently fulfill her finally launches her on A Course in Miracles' journey without distance to the place we never left.
Readers cannot help but identify with Edward's vivid, intimate, moving accounts of her "serial adventures" in this world, and eventual plea for a better way of living through forgiveness A Course in Miracles style. Her ability to articulate the Course's metaphysics while applying its mind-healing principles in the classroom of her life will inspire Course students. And her application of forgiveness to a painful, ongoing physical challenge and a difficult, long-term relationship perfectly illustrate the miracle of changing our mind about all we believe would hurt or help us through a new kind of forgiveness that "... merely looks on devastation, and reminds the mind that what it sees is false." A practice that teaches us to gently smile at the fearful images we generate to defend against the eternal, all-inclusive Love we continue to share. Like her subsequent book, Leaving the Desert: Embracing the Simplicity of A Course in Miracles; this is a must read for A Course in Miracles students or anyone curious about its profound, mind-healing message.

An illuminating account,

First this book was a very enjoyable read. I so related to Pauline's unquenchable search for the Truth.
I too have studied A Course in Miracles for years, sometimes without any clarity. I felt like I grew in understanding along with Pauline. Her journey has helped me in my own understanding of the metaphysics of the Course. I will keep this book especially for the appendix which gives great practical application straight from and about the Course. Thank you Pauline for this gift.

A Wonderful Book!!,
This review is from: Making Peace with God: The Journey of a Course in Miracles Student (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed "Making Peace with God" and felt close to Pauline as she eloquently described the unfoldings of her intimate search for Truth. Forgiveness (ACIM style) is explored as an approach to healing the mind which ultimately leads us home to perfect peace and Oneness. Included in Pauline's book are clear examinations of true life experiences with helpful, related excerpts of teachings from A Course in Miracles.
I highly recommend "Making Peace with God" to anyone who is on a spiritual journey and seeking a path of non-duality/enlightenment. I always feel that life experiences can be most helpful in assisting to uncover valuable teachings and direction pointers for healing the split mind. I found Pauline's experiences and how she utilized the Course's teachings to be extremely insightful. Pauline lifts you up to Truth and shows you (through words and acts of forgiveness) how you can find peace even in some of the most difficult and painful situations. If you have ever questioned life and existence and if you have ever wondered if there is a God who loves you and wants you to be truly happy and at peace, then you can benefit from this book. It offers a great dose of insight for all. It's a must read!! Robyn Busfield, Author of Forgiveness is the Home of Miracles: A Personal Journey through the Workbook of "A Course in Miracles"

The Ultimate Destination,
By Alex Marchand (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Making Peace with God: The Journey of a Course in Miracles Student (Kindle Edition)
Making Peace with God is the ultimate destination of all spiritual journeys. However, until the destination becomes clear on the horizon, the spiritual journey can be quite a trek full of uncertainty.
In Making Peace with God, author Pauline Edward recounts her trek to the spiritual horizon. The book presents an extensive, intriguing personal story of spiritual exploration that culminates in the discovery of A Course in Miracles. It is a relatable story sure to entertain and inform any authentic spiritual seeker. And it is a story sure to save much time for the spiritual seeker still with an unclear horizon. But the story doesn't end there... (See my review of Leaving the Desert: Embracing the Simplicity of A Course in Miracles.) I really enjoyed reading this difficult to put down book and would recommend it to anyone interested in the course in miracles. It is an honest and intense story of the writer's life with its successes and challenging periods, and parallel spiritual search for the truth. The search finally points towards the course in miracles as a reliable and lasting way (out) to look at the world. For me reading this book has re-energized my own studying the course. Thanks for sharing this to your fellow seemingly separate ego's.

Not What I Expected,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Making Peace with God: The Journey of a Course in Miracles Student (Paperback)
Apparently, many people really enjoyed this book. However, I was not amongst them. I bought this book based on the reviews here on Amazon, but was very dissapointed. In fact, I am returning it.
For me, it didn't speak enough about ACIM. In fact, the author spends most the book, until page 102 or chapter 10 telling her life story, which I found quite boring. The author also struggled with ACIM much more than I myself did and we had a totally different perspective on the Text. I am amongst those who find it poetic and amazing in it's beauty. While I readily grasp what ACIM is saying, it is sometimes difficult for me to put into practice on a consistent basis. The author find the text impossible to understand without the assistance of teachers such as Kenneth Wapnick. And while Kenneth Wapnick is one of my favorite teachers of ACIM, I find the most comfort in reading the text myself and inviting Holy Spirit to change my perceptions. I am not discounting the value of this book for other students who may have had a experience with ACIM, much as Pauline's own, however, for myself it had little of value, except for the quotes, but for that I could read the text myself. Admittedly, this book started to look to me like a way for the author to promote her blog, but then she later confessed in the book that she shut down her blog. This book would have been better to me if she had of seriously edited the long and tedious life story that preceeded her introduction to ACIM and been filled more with ACIM and about ACIM. I much prefer Lisa Natoli's Gorgeous For God. This book was a huge dissappointment to me personally. When I came to ACIM I had studied Eastern Religions for quite some time and was very attuned to the idea that one must surrender their ego to realize God Consciousness. When I found ACIM, I had been looking for a book that would show me exactly how to do that, but did not believe that it existed. Perhaps, because of the state of mind I was in when I found ACIM it more familar to me and it's concepts appealing and welcome and a Miracle. If you get something out of this book will depend on your personal experience and what you may share with the author in her struggles to embrace and understand ACIM. It just did not speak to me at all. |
