Love the characters. Love the romance. More on this little family please., August 27, 2010
I have to say I enjoy this more than Keeping Promise Rock. I love Deacon and Crick but their story in Keeping Promise Rock is too sad even if the ending is fine. I am glad these guys play a role in Making Promises even as this time the focus is on the police Shane. Shane is the gentle giant with a big heart, his desire to help those in needs and what better way to do that than be a policeman. But the very career he set his big heart to is the very thing which keeps betraying him. Mikhail the Russian dance is one explosive and vulnerable character. He has lived a terrible youth drowned in drugs and despair in his native land. He could have died if not for a wonderful woman in his life, his mother who is dying of cancer. I love the bond between mother and son, their exchanges touching, bringing lumps to my throat. Mikhail is one endearing little spitfire. He wants Shane but is afraid he is not good enough for the big man. He keeps pushing Shane away even as he wants to keep this man for himself. I enjoy the chemistry between the two men. I love that Shane refuses to give up on his Russian dancer and finally wins him. I love that Mikhail finally finds his own worth and is all for keeping and defending his man. The bonus is all those wonderful characters first introduced in Keeping Promise Rock are here too, each of them playing a nice even if little role in the lovers' life. Amy Lane's writing is seamless, her story heartwarming and so easy to immerse in, her characters vividly alive. Now if only she will write a story on Jeff. This little family in Levee Oaks is hard to forget!

Promises Sequel....a winner, August 17, 2010
This review is from: Making Promises (Paperback)
Amy Lane has been a busy lady this year!!!! She has happily kept me busy reading
this summer with a some magical short stories and now the a sequel to Keeping Promise Rock.
We are brought back to Levee Oaks, and to Shane Perkins. If you read the first story, he is one of the towns police officers we met, who believed in the Pulpit and its people and became `family' at Deacon and Cricks Sunday dinner table. We now learn about his past. He was 10 yrs on the force, ready to make detective. He was outed as gay by his partner and lover. He was set up by his brother officers with no backup, and was critically injured. The department `paid' a large sum of money, to cover up this situation. Shane was a rich man, in money, but still felt the need to be needed and joined the force in Levee Oaks.
We meet his sister Kimmy, who we learn has her own baggage. She travels the circuit, of Renaissance Faires and lives with a loser and druggie Kurt. Shane travels a few towns over to see her dance as the faire comes to a nearby town. It is there Shane meets Mikhail Vasilyovitch Bayul. This is their story. Mikhail and Shane have put themselves out there for this relationship. Shanes desire to woo this man , Mikhail who is so lost, he has no self worth at all. The Making and Keeping of Promises is not new to us as the reader, but to Mikhail it makes Shane his Lubime...
Making Promises is a great visit to see how our friends in Levee Oaks are. Babies have
been born and are growing up. New stories are out there for our author to draw ...Who will Kimmy and Benny meet ?? Is there a HEA for Jeff???? And most of all our author has given us a brand new word for Beloved .
Wonderful read Amy Lane!!!

Promise Rock expanded and continued....., August 9, 2010
If you liked 'Keeping Promise Rock', you will love 'Making Promises' and you will better understand Deacon's character as well as Cricks (and all the others, for that matter). Shane is the cop (and main character of this story)that stopped by on occasion at the Pulpit. This is his story. Shane is a big, clumsy, loveable cop with a big heart and a lotta love to give to the right person. The right person happens to be a Russian Dancer by the name of Mikhail who lives with his dying mother. Ms. Lane writes with a passion that allows us readers a peak into her story so that we understand "Mickey's" anger or Shane's compassion. "I get by with a little help from my friends" takes on a whole new meaning. Get used to it. So, get out the tissues and be prepared to let the eyes leak.
