Rex's makeup instruction is the best basic advice a woman could have. He shows you how to analyze your facial type and tells you how to make yourself up according to your individual traits. His colored illustrations are not only beautiful, they give clear pictures of how to do the procedures. His makeup designs are so classic and elegant they transcend current fads and fashions. I refer to this book time and time again. I would recommend it to a woman of any age who wants to look her best.

I found that there is good information in the book and the description of face shapes and how to break down the areas of the face to figure it out better than other books. That's about the extent of what I walked away with from this one. I can see that Rex is an excellent illustrator but it really helps to have photographs to see makeup (before and after photos are the best part of any makeup book). There is good information here or there in the book like all makeup books but I don't know if I would recommend it.

I love books that combine beautiful pictures and fashion artistry with common-sense application tips for those of us that might be just a little make-up impaired! I enjoyed Rex Hilverdink's approaches to make-up, I think he makes high fashion entirely accessible to the average, normal woman. And the pictures! Absolutely gorgeous. With tons of work for Vogue and other magazines under his belt, Hilverdink has much, much more to offer to women everywhere. This book is a great start, I enjoyed it immensely.

This book is really for the true cosmetics novice. I enjoyed the lovely presentation, but this is truly an example of style over substance. In addition, I spoke with a male acquaintance of mine who stated that he was surprised by just how elementary this book's advice is. "Don't most girls learn that from their mothers?" he asked. I would say he is right! Rex shares very little of his knowledge. Only buy this at a greatly discounted price.
