This collection of 20 samplers, inspired by individual pieces from the Embroiderers' Guild Collection, has been designed to cover a wide range of types and techniques, so that stitchers will find samplers for different circumstances and different levels of skill. Among the techniques are cross-stitch, canvas-work, crazy patchwork, crewel-work, whitework, applique and machine embroidery. This review is from: Making Samplers: The Embroiderer's Guild Practical Library (Hardcover)
An interesting look at the origins or samplers and the stitches that can be used. I just wish it had more information on how to create one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book description from flyleaf, July 31, 2009
This review is from: Making Samplers: The Embroiderer's Guild Practical Library (Hardcover)
The fascination of samplers has endured for centuries, and they are just as popular today as ever. Their strong appeal derives from their use to celebrate and commemorate family events, to record memories of people and places and to explore different stitches.

This collection of twenty samplers to make also covers the widest range of types and techniques, presenting stitchers with samplers to suit many different circumstances and levels of skill. Created by seventeen of the UK's top designers, including Jo
Verso, Jane Greenoff, Brenda Keyes, Muriel Best, Jenny Bullen and Vicky Lugg, each sampler was inspired by an historic piece from the famous Embroiderers' Guild Collection.

Featured techniques include cross stitch, canvaswork, crazy patchwork, crewelwork, whitework, applique, and machine embroidery. The delightful designs encompass traditional themes such as a family tree, a map, a house and garden, Adam and Eve, flowers from Victorian Berlin woolwork and decorative lettering. Full instructions and charts are given for every project, and each finished piece is shown in a superb colour photograph.
