This is story of a young man who grows up in the wilderness of Pennsylvania in the mid 1800s and enlists as a substitute in the 93rd Pennsylvania Volunteers. It written around the actual diary which he carried through the final Battle of Petersburg and the pursuit and surrender of Lee at Appomattox Courthouse. It is a blend of fact and fiction with a touch of romance woven into the overall story. Must reading for the Civil War Buff.
