Not much new or interesting here.,
By Stephanie Cake (Baltimore, Hon!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Making Stuff: An Alternative Craft Book (Interior Design) (Paperback)
I really, really hate to write bad reviews but.... this book simply isn't worth the money.
The projects here aren't particularly interesting or inspiring and, in some cases, aren't even executed very well. Many of the basic ideas - sock monkeys, soap, recycling knitted garments and felting - are also featured in the obscene glut of other DIY/"renegade craft" publications out there these days. If you have any of those other books, then you have pretty much everything featured in Making Stuff. As another reviewer mentioned, you are better off finding free online tutorials for most of the projects listed in the book. Sadly, the book just doesn't measure up to the price tag.

For Crafters Who Want to get OFFline,
By California Crafter (San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Making Stuff: An Alternative Craft Book (Interior Design) (Paperback)
The previous reviews had a lot of on target comments - I'd like to just challenge one issue a bit. Yes the projects are around in other forms online, but speaking for myself, I really enjoy getting offline and looking through a real book for ideas. It's a little stale to be clicking away through tutorials and endless google searches. I'd imagine especially for folks who want to craft with kids with a focus on real-life work.
If you would like to be able to close your computer, sit in a comfy chair and find some great ideas, this book would be a fun addition to your craft library. Lots of projects in all different categories and all different skill levels.

Disappointing,
By amandasan (seattle) - See all my reviews

I found this book rather disappointing. Great idea but not well executed. You would be better off looking for free patterns and tutorials online. I thought the photography seemed grungy and most of the projects didn't seem very interesting. There are much better options out there for the beginner or experienced crafter.

Just okay.,

I love crafting and making old things new again. This book looked promising and does have a few neat ideas. But for the most part it's just okay. A lot of the projects are either too difficult to be fun or things that you wouldn't even really want. It's not a book that is entertaining to read as a like a coffee table book...it's not bad or great either.
