5.0 out of 5 stars Recapture the Vison
A few years back, we established a Biblical purpose for our youth ministry. It has been our guide to stay focused and on track to do the work of God. This year, we had a youth leadership retreat to plan and evaluate. I read this book before the retreat and it helped me communicate better our purpose and gave many ideas to continue the process. I always count on Andy Stanley to have something to say that will be practical and helpful. This book did not disappoint in this regard. He reminds us in the church -- and really anyone who has a vision for a family, organization, or company -- that the work is not done once the vision is clear. The vision takes reinforcement and reminders. There are signs for which to watch that suggest the vision is slipping and needs attention. The message of the book is worthwhile.

However, the book's length would be more appropriate for an article in a periodical than a book for separate publication. Thus, for this particular topic, I'd recommend looking for articles online or in business or church leadership periodicals first.

This year, we had a youth leadership retreat to plan and evaluate. I read this book before the retreat and it helped me communicate better our purpose and gave many ideas to continue the process. 5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Will Stick With Me, December 13, 2008

This review is from: Making Vision Stick (Leadership Library) (Hardcover)
At the close of each year through the first few weeks of the following year, I prayerfully seek God's will and desire for our church. I find myself reading through the Scriptures with an intentionality of understanding what God has for the church in general as well as our church specifically in where we are located.

God brings along books to me as well that are priceless. The latest book is Making Vision Stick by Andy Stanley. Having only read one other book by Stanley (Visioneering) -- and that was years ago -- I approached this book without much bias or even expectation.

Yet I would highly recommend this short book. He recommends three ways to help vision stick:

* Cast vision strategically: defining your vision
* Celebrate vision systematically: regularly rejoicing in the successes
* Live your vision continuously: putting your vision into practice in your own life.

He goes on to note how the vision statement for the church must be simple and memorable. He notes how it is better to have vision statement simple and incomplete rather than complete but too long to remember. It is up to the leader to help those following him to see the vision the leader has embraced.

2.0 out of 5 stars Rehashed stuff..., July 9, 2008
By
This review is from: Making Vision Stick (Leadership Library) (Hardcover)
I found this book to be sort of a rehash of Visioneering. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't word for word, but the principles were there in condensed form. It seems like all the Leadership books are becoming redundant. This one was blaise' at best for me. Sorry. I usually like what Andy Stanley writes.

This is a great little book. It has plenty of punch for it's size. Get it and apply it to your church.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short and Practical, April 28, 2008
This review is from: Making Vision Stick (Leadership Library) (Hardcover)
This is a short and very practical look at how to cast a vision that people will catch and adopt with their lives. For a more in depth look at some of the concepts discussed in this book you should check out "7 Practices of Effective Ministry" by Stanley/Joiner/Jones.
This is a must read even for the busiest of ministers because you can immediately put into practice the concepts you read about and it does not take but an afternoon or a couple of nights to read.

I read Andy's Visioneering several years ago to help me get my hands around vision. This book is much more practical as it takes the principles in Visioneering and condenses them down to simple, doable steps.
Andy's books on vision have encouraged me to write a book on personal vision as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Straight Forward Book, December 10, 2007

I saw reviews of this book on various lead ministers blogs that I read and decided to give it a shot. After you've prayed and prayed and prayed and God has worked in you to reveal the vision of your church or ministry then is the time to pick up this book and quickly read through the how to's of vision casting and making it stick. With great illustrations and to the point ways to help your people understand the vision this is the best book I've read on vision and recommend it to any minister in any position in the church or para-church organization because we all cast vision and we can all use the help to do it better.

3.0 out of 5 stars good quick read., October 20, 2007
This review is from: Making Vision Stick (Leadership Library) (Hardcover)
This book is a very quick read. It is a good book and Stanley gives a quick but brief look into casting vision. It is worth reading but if you are looking for a more in depth look at how to cast vision he has better books for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short, Sweet and to the Point, September 9, 2011

This review is from: Making Vision Stick (Leadership Library) (Hardcover)
At first glance, I was a bit disappointed in the size of the book. I expected a much larger hardcover; however, the content was well worth the investment. The principles that Andy Stanley lays out in Making Vision Stick are applicable both in ministry and in the corporate world. These are timeless gems that need to be shared over and over again throughout generations. If you have ever been burned out or want to save someone the agony, learn how to make vision stick!
