Very Authoritative Book,

I disagree with the last reviewer regarding the content of Maricristin's book. This book has everything you need to make a wide variety of Waldorf-style dolls. I have made three versions already, and I am working my way through the rest of the patterns. The instructions are clear and complete. The book doesn't have big pretty pictures, true, but it has all the information needed to make dolls. And that is really what matters. This is a niche market book, and it is one of very few available. In my opinion, the chapter on hair alone is worth over $30.

I think this book is the same as the author's earlier title, Kinder Dolls (something like that) and the "used book" prices on that earlier title have been inflated too high. "Making Waldorf Dolls" is expensive at $30 yet a bit more cheaply made in that it has no color photographs. No matter, I have to say this is a great! book with wonderful patterns, S-M-L size bodies, very clear drawings and instructions, how-to(s) for hair. This book also has a jointed "doll" body. If you're looking for a jointed "baby" body, that is in the book "Baby Dolls and Their Clothes" by Valeria Ferrari (also an excellent book) but I have to say that Making Waldorf dolls is better because the patterns are MUCH! easier. This book is my favorite of 5-6 sock doll books I own.

I love this book -- I put off buying it for so many months, and I wish I'd bought it sooner. It has all the information you need to start making dolls. The chapter on hair is especially wonderful -- it has so many variations! I have made dolls from kits before, and the directions included with the kits generally only show one hairstyle/body style/head style. This book has so many doll variations, you can choose what you're most comfortable with. The clothing patterns are very basic, with minimal instructions -- so you can kind of do as much or little with them as you like.

I had already made a few dolls when I bought this book by using tutorials on the internet, but I went ahead and ordered this because I wanted something tangible that I could refer to anytime. It's easy to understand and if you follow her instructions you can create a decent looking Waldorf doll. There are other methods of sewing certain things (eg. head attachment, shaped feet, etc.) that are not shown here. Also, the instructions for a button-jointed doll are not given. The pictures are lacking and for some reason it really bugs me that there aren't actual photos of the doll-making process and whatnot in the book. Also, the patterns must be scanned/printed by you, and there aren't patterns for everything in the book, the author just kind of says do this or that and you'll figure it out. I like this book all right, but I don't love it. The best thing is to just jump right in, start making the doll, follow this book as best you can and also consult other books or the internet if needed.

Making Waldorf Dolls,

This was a book used by a master doll maker as I attended a series of classes on making Waldorf Dolls so I had a chance to look at it before I bought it. It covers all the basics from sculpting the inner head to creating clothes, including patterns. It is fully illustrated and the directions are easy to follow and has suggestions for pacing, from small projects to more involved ones. Craft books tend to have only a few useful patterns or bits of information and I do not usually spend $27 on a paperback craft book, but this was well worth the money. All the instruction is valuable and I will no doubt refer to it again and again.

This book is perfect. Amazon's price cannot be beat. This book walks you step by step to make these beautiful Dolls. They even give tips on everything even enlarging the patterns. I am so happy I bought Making Waldorf Dolls, and I saved money buying here. Full patterns, where to buy items needed, how to weight the doll, every doll pattern is here. I have used other patterns to make dolls and they were awefull but these turned out perfect from the first one.

Pricey, but Good,

This review is from: Making Waldorf Dolls (Paperback)
This book gives good, clear instruction, with patterns that are easily copied/augmented. However, for the price, I was expecting much more content, maybe some photographs, etc. There are no photos, just line drawings. It really irritates me that just because something has "Waldorf" in the name that it gets double the price as a similar item in the same category. I feel that goes against what Waldorf philosophies stand for period. It is really hypocritical. But the book content itself is good--just expected more of it.

This is a great book for making cloth dolls for your children, which will be btreasured for years. I did have some problems with the company I ordered from (they sent me the wrong book and I could not get them to reply until I involved Amazon, but everything got worked out.) The book will be a great reference book.

I am a first-time waldorf doll maker and was so impressed with how well this book was written. The instructions are clear and she offers a lot of different options for waldorf dolls. Would recommend to anyone wanting to make a doll. This is the only book you'll need!
