A wonderful instructional/reference book for any woodworking hobbyist or for those wanting to make wood signs as a professional business. There are hundreds of photos along with the informative text. There are sections on: handcarved signs, power tool use signs, sandblasted signs, as well as traditional and unique techniques and tactics in the craft.

I used the original book about 1986 and was able to make signs just like the professionals since I already had graphic training and experience. The college courses I took for graphic design did not go very far into actually producing the final product. This book made the difference. And now its even better and bigger than its predecessor.

I purchased this book about 2 years ago and have read it cover to cover about 20 times! There is a lot to digest for a beginner. In any case, I found numerous helpful tips from everything from router set up, techniques. It helped me to learn the science and the art of sign carving. I would recommend this to anyone interested in learning how to carve signs. There also are some great videos out there to actually see how the techniques are done. Enjoy! Good investment!

Excellent resource for basic information on making wood signs for various purposes, using several technologies - router, scroll saw, sand-blasting, etc. Whether you're just making signs for yourself or thinking of going into business, the "how-to's" are clear and well illustrated.

I saw the inside of the book on Google which seemed to show most of the pages. This is what was the deciding factor for me to own the book. Author Patrick Spelman has out done himself. He is so detailed in every chapter that I feel as if I am face to face with the instructor.
[...] The book is so informative that I considered this one of my best books in my collection since my first Stephen King's novel. I can go on being peppy like a school girl, but that would not be very manly of me. Simply, the tips and techniques are so clear and concise that a beginner or an expert can achieve equal comprehension. I do not lightly give good reviews. If I do not have something nice to say I would rather not say anything. But, it was necessary for me to give praise to one of my now prize books.

This is not the book you think it is. This description is wrong. This is a little book. This is not the one you want. Get the book that shows the brownish/beige cover (same title and author). I was very upset and had to reorder.
