'The dream is possible and promising! If you've dreamed of a children's ministry where children beg to come to church, applying the principles from this book will make your dream come true!' -- Christine Yount, , Executive Editor

From the Back Cover

Promiseland is Willow Creek's highly successful children's ministry. Using examples from Promiseland and churches of all sizes around the country, this book provides step by step guidance and creative application exercises to help churches develop a thriving children's ministry---one that strives to be the best hour of every kid's week. Included are Scripture-based principles and practical resources for church staff members and volunteers who agree with the critical role children's ministry plays in a local church. Making Your Children's Ministry the Best Hour of Every Kid's Week, based on twenty-eight years of experience at Willow Creek, explains four ministry foundations: Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategy. Content includes: Detailed answers to questions facing every children's ministry: * What does Jesus expect from children's ministry? * How can we evangelize lost kids and disciple saved kids at the same time, and should we? * How do we engage kids so they don't become bored? * How do we get better at recruiting and leading volunteers? * How can our ministry be a safe place for children? * Six specific ministry values that address the needs of today's children * Practical first steps for ministries that want to get serious about change * Clear indicators of success in children's ministry

More About the Author

Sue is a teacher, leader, speaker, and author with a passion for bringing out the best in volunteers. Much of that passion developed over the 17 years she served as Children's Ministry Director at Willow Creek Community Church near Chicago, Illinois. Her ongoing challenge was to figure out how to recruit, grow, and keep a fantastic team of volunteers that could influence the faith of the 3,000 kids that attended each weekend. She also served on the senior management team under the leadership of pastor Bill Hybels, a champion of volunteerism.

In 2005, Sue joined Orange, a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to influence those who influence the next generation. These days she thinks Orange from head to toe when it comes to church strategy.

Sue is the author of several books, including Parenting Is Wonder-full and Making Your Children's Ministry the Best Hour of Every Kid's Week. She is also the co-author of Not Normal: Seven Quirks of Incredible Volunteers.

When not working, Sue lives with her handsome husband, Rick, in a fixer-upper house in Atlanta, Georgia. She does life with her two favorite adult kids, one amazing son-in-law, a mischievous black mini schnauzer, and two of the most incredible grandsons on the planet.

Sue Miller brings her great editorial chops to whatisorange.com She helps create and edit children's ministry curriculum but before she became orange, she served as the Children's Minister at Willow Creek Church. It's one of the largest churches in North America and they have a bunch of kids. Sue has and infectious way of bringing adults in and really building them up to help them give to kids in a great way. She's had people begging her to be a part of the children's ministry.

If you're new in children's ministry, this book is a must have. In the same way she builds her team, her writing strengthen the reading and creates confidence for the next steps. She even includes training ideas for Children's ministers to help them train their leaders too.

I highly recommend this book for children's pastors, volunteers, parents, and anyone else actively involved in children's ministry. I just started implementing Willow Creek's model as described in the book and can already see the enthusiasm in the children that attend.

This is my second time for reading this book. My first time was when it initially came out and the truths were new and fresh. Now, many years later in ministry, I am re-reading it in order to mentor a Sr. in High School. I thought God led me to this book for her benefit and now I'm finding out it is more for MY benefit. It has been a great reminder of the essentials for ministry to children.
