New children's pastors, this one's for you,
By Paula Whidden (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Making Your Children's Ministry the Best Hour of Every Kid's Week (Paperback)
Sue Miller brings her great editorial chops to whatisorange.com She helps create and edit children's ministry curriculum but before she became orange, she served as the Children's Minister at Willow Creek Church. It's one of the largest churches in North America and they have a bunch of kids. Sue has and infectious way of bringing adults in and really building them up to help them give to kids in a great way. She's had people begging her to be a part of the children's ministry. If you're new in children's ministry, this book is a must have. In the same way she builds her team, her writing strengthen the reading and creates confidence for the next steps. She even includes training ideas for Children's ministers to help them train their leaders too.

This is my second time for reading this book. My first time was when it initially came out and the truths were new and fresh. Now, many years later in ministry, I am re-reading it in order to mentor a Sr. in High School. I thought God led me to this book for her benefit and now I'm finding out it is more for MY benefit. It has been a great reminder of the essentials for ministry to children.

I highly recommend this book for children's pastors, volunteers, parents, and anyone else actively involved in children's ministry. I just started implementing Willow Creek's model as described in the book and can already see the enthusiasm in the children that attend.

I enjoyed reading the story of how Promiseland started. I appreciated how Sue Miller and David Staal broke down the secrets to their success. The part about thriving in ministry was a message I especially needed to hear because sometimes I try to do it all. Other inspiring parts had to do with recruiting volunteers and forming teams to do ministry together.
A well-written book which inspired me greatly.

This book is very informative and really gave me a boost in my thinking
of my ministry to our children in my church! It is just the thing I needed. It thoroughly covers several set backs and pitfalls that typically occur in children ministry.

Insightful & Motivating!,

This review is from: Making Your Children's Ministry the Best Hour of Every Kid's Week (Paperback)
I found this book be very motivating and encouraging. It showed through real examples of trial error how to truly make your ministry the best hour of a kid's week. Sue Miller has a way of providing insight and after I read this book I felt I had a better understanding of why areas needed to be improved. The end of the book provides an area for group and individual questions. I would recommend this book to anybody who is involved in any type of ministry...it sheds light onto children's ministry and the importance of it!
