Book Description

November 16, 1999
Imagine living the life you've always dreamed about--the career, the relationship, and even simply that vacation you keep putting off. In Making Your Dreams Come True, Marcia Wieder teaches you a concrete formula to overcome whatever is standing between you and your dream--mostly your own self-limiting beliefs--and to rediscover the passion that may have been hidden for years.

As a dream coach and entrepreneur, Marcia Wieder knows what she's talking about. In 1993, she left her successful East Coast media business and moved to San Francisco, the city of her dreams. Six years later, with a thriving international business as a motivational speaker, she's a shining example of what is possible when you follow that inner passion.

With Marcia as your personal coach, you too will learn step-by-step how to define and manifest your dreams. But according to Marcia, you must first examine your attitudes and beliefs to see whether or not they empower or impede you. Learning how to get your own beliefs on your side is just one of the specific strategies of her plan. Throughout the book, Marcia also provides a wealth of helpful advice--from how to look at your life from a genuinely fresh perspective to designing an environment both physically and emotionally that will support your dream. You will also discover the "Passion Pyramid," a useful tool that reveals how passion helps you accomplish your dreams more quickly.

Filled with stories of real people, practical exercises, and a personal workbook for you, Making Your Dreams Come True delivers on its promise: When you've finished, you will know how to make your dreams come true--any time you choose.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

"In all areas of my life I'm living a life I love. This book will show you how to do the same for yourself," writes author Marcia Wieder (Life Is but a Dream and Doing Less and Having More). Wieder offers a step-by-step process for making your dreams come true. The basic formula is simple, even obvious: "
  • Get clear about what your dream is
  • Remove the obstacles, especially the limiting beliefs
  • Design the simple steps to make your dreams happen
But Weider uses the formula as a starting place. She offers practical strategies and exercises to put you in charge of your dreams and making them come true.

For example, she explains how your beliefs "either move you forward or hold you back, and you choose what you will believe." She includes "real people" anecdotes to show how other people let their beliefs limit them, and then how they used Weider's suggestions and strategies to change the beliefs they were "buying." You learn to face your fears, identify your limiting beliefs, and change them. The end of the book is a workbook for implementing what you've learned.

Making Your Dreams Come True has that winning combination of motivation, introspection, and practical steps for achieving your goals. If your life is unsatisfying or routine, or if you have dreams you're not reaching, Weider could be your personal "dream coach." --Joan Price

From Publishers Weekly

Offering simple motivational messages with a dynamic delivery, Wieder (Doing Less and Having More, etc.) has built a loyal following as a self-styled "coach," who helps individuals to achieve their dreams, and corporations to fulfill their missions. To coincide with the launch of her public television fundraising program by the same name, Wieder has revised her self-published 1993 book, which has sold more than 100,000 copies through lectures, seminars and her Dream University. With a cheerleader's enthusiasm, she urges readers to believe that they can do anything (short of realizing impossible fantasies) using her basic formula: decide what you want, remove obstacles like self-doubt and take simple steps to get there. Self-quizzes and guided imagery exercises may help readers to think about their preferences and purpose. One useful suggestion is to assemble a "Dream Team" for guidance and encouragement. However, the material is vague overall, the notions of pursuing one's "passion" or determining one's purpose aren't especially fresh today, and the examples often seem simplistic and too good to be true. For instance, Wieder recalls an incident where she told a conference attendee about her dream of spending time in Greece, only to discover that the woman owned a villa there, which she invited Wieder to use. Though other self-help books, particularly What Color Is Your Parachute? cover this territory in more depth and more imaginatively, Wieder's TV appearances may draw curious readers. 5.0 out of 5 stars Find Purpose and Passion in Your Life, January 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Making Your Dreams Come True (Hardcover)
I have read many types of books on self-improvement which have helped to improved my life, but this book has moved me beyond explanation. In just two hours, I have already read over half of the book while completing Marcia Wieder's valuable exercises. I am extremely excited because through these exercises I am discovering my true life's purpose and actually envisioning specific, tangible ways to accomplish my dreams.

By the way, I am a very practical minded woman with a secure, well-paying job in a Fortune 500 company. I also have three great children, a happy marriage, own a large home, am in excellent health with terrific friends, and I'm earning straight A's in college (among many other blessings). Still, I have not been content with how my life has developed and I couldn't quite pinpoint the problem. This book has left me with a renewed hope for a bright and exciting future. If something is missing in your life and you want to live it with passion, I highly recommend you get this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical & Powerful, January 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Making Your Dreams Come True (Hardcover)
Just wanted to take the time to share my experience in reading this book with anyone considering buying it. Of all of the books I've read on the topic of success (personal & professional), this is by far the most practical and powerful step-by-step guide I've ever encountered. Marcia Wieder is a funny and captivating writer with a clear and focused approach to acheiving goals. I've read many books that have suggested ideas for creating success that simply were not suitable solutions that could be easily applied in my life. This book is different, the instructions in this book are written for the average person, not someone with the ability to just walk out of a job to pursue a dream of becoming something else. For some this may be a viable alternative, not for me. I needed help clarifying my dreams and an easy formula for manifesting these dreams in my life. This book has been more helpful to me than any other book I've read on the subject of acheiving goals, personal/professional success, etc. After reading this book, I began to identify what my passion was and how I could bring that passion into my everyday life without doing anything radical or unrealistic! This book is fantastic and I'm sure anyone who chooses to read it will not regret their decision!
