Book Description

April 12, 2012
Imagine waking up with enthusiasm every workday. Imagine being certain that you are highly valued by your boss and coworkers. Imagine feeling secure and in control because, even if jobs are being eliminated, you're too valuable to let go. In other words, imagine being indispensable.
Sound too good to be true? Not according to Mark Samuel, who has helped thousands of people around the world get on the path to personal achievement and fulfillment. He shows why the key to becoming indispensable is to embrace accountability rather than run from it, in everything you do at work and in your personal life.
You'll see how Samuel's Personal Accountability Model really worked for people such as:
·         Lynn, who transformed herself from the worst teacher at her school to one of the most respected.
·         Dan, an office assistant of ten years who finally figured out how to jumpstart his career.
·         Mary, a super visor who had continually been skipped over for promotion, until she finally decided to stop "playing it small."
·         Jerry, a plant manager who got stuck in a "victim loop" when his division began to underperform. Only when he stopped blaming others could he find the energy and ideas to help his plant overcome its challenges.
Becoming indispensable doesn't require a fancy degree, a senior management title, or a huge income. It's a mind-set available to anyone, as you'll learn from these and other inspiring true stories. You'll also discover Samuel's proven strategies for letting go of victimhood, figuring out what's really holding you back, and taking smart actions to achieve your highest goals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Building Trust April 13, 2012
By Barb
Format:Hardcover
Mark delivers the most practical, common sense way to build trust in an organization. We have found him to be the leading expert on peaceful accountability... 'the ability to rely on others to do what they say and support them in the achieving all they committed to'. We found most high performing people in the organization see themselves as behaving very accountably around their own role; however, they don't see themselves as needing to be accountable for holding others to their agreements. The direct result of this behaviour is a culture of blame and dwindling trust.

Using the tools in the book, we learned about 'forgiveness' and 'recovery' from a pragmatic and very business like perspective. That has helped all our impacted leaders engage in more personally rewarding and safer ways. Breakdowns are quickly surfaced and forward motion accelerated with this kind of thinking.

It has been one of the most personally rewarding books for me. As with all Mark's work it focuses on execution, I didn't just set it aside as a 'nice' read. I found that page-by-page my thinking and then my behaviour started to change. I've also been priveledge to witness significant self-awareness and growth in others as they moved from a victim mentality to one of being an accountable formal and informal leader.
In a baffling, overwhelming world of constant change, this book provides clear tools and processes for how you can intentionally live the life you want.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Road Map for Success April 12, 2012
Format:Hardcover
The Making Yourself Indispensable process laid out in the book is simple, easy to follow and well thought out. The exercises in the book were effective in helping me clarify where I rated in terms of making myself indispensable. I was also able to further clarify where I want to go and how to get there. Mark Samuel's system for being indispensable is built on the premise of holding and making one's self accountable. It is this accountability as the keystone of his system that truly sold me on the effectiveness of this process. Do yourself a favor and make yourself indispensable. John

5.0 out of 5 stars Your life, your choice November 22, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
It is easy to miss the book's message if one makes it another casual read. However, if one works through it diligently doing all the exercises and taking the time towards answering the hard questions that it requires one to ask of oneself, it is life changing. Even though I find that I already imbibe most of what the author considers as traits towards accountability, it was as revealing and reforming as if I were an irresponsible person. Highly recommended for any who may be serious about self examination and self growth.

I've read a lot of great self-help and self-management books over the last six months and this one really stands out for its clarity, depth, breadth, and actionability.

I'm on my second time through the audiobook now and I almost never listen to audiobooks more than once.
