Makita-Built Motor
The 4350FCT has three orbital settings plus straight cutting, powered by a Makita-built 6.3 AMP motor. The electronic variable speed control (800 - 2,800 SPM) is engineered to maintain consistent speed throughout the cut for superior results. The motor is dynamically balanced for 40-percent less tool vibration and lower noise than competitive models. The 4350FCT has a 1-inch length of stroke, with a wood cutting capacity of 5-5/16 inches at 90° and a steel cutting capacity of 3/8 inches at 90°.

Ease-of-Use Features
Ease-of-use features were also engineered into the 4350FCT. The saw weighs just 5.7 pounds, with an L.E.D. light to illuminate the cutting surface and a built-in dust blower to clear the line of cut for greater visibility. The ergonomically designed rubberized grip on the top handle provides greater comfort and control. The patented "tool-less" blade change system provides fast and easy installation and removal of Tang shank blades. The die-cast aluminum base adjusts up to 45° right or left with a positive stop at 90° for solid cutting performance. An on-board hex wrench is included for fast, accurate bevel adjustments.

I think I've owned every make of Jig Saw at one time or another. My first one was a $3.00 jig saw from the Sears catalog many, many years ago as a youngster and through a progression of PC's, Skils. Hitachis, Bosches, DeWalts. (UGH) and more recently a Milwaukee w/led light. I've used it for two remodeling jobs and now the blades wont lock square. Needing one immediately, I opted for the Makita 4350 FCT. This is one fine saw. Fit and finish are perfect, the blade lock system is smooth and locks tight and square. The blower and LED light add to its complement of features. I drew lines on a piece of glossy laminate flooring (12.5mm thick) and without any effort, cut perfectly straight lines. I dont think there is a saw out there that can beat this one. The motor is made in Japan and the saw in England (so much for Chinese crap). You will never go wrong with this one (or a Bosch), but I have to give the Makita the edge.

I've used this jigsaw and the DeWALT DW331 which I got at HD for about 150 including tax. I'll try to give you the main differences (main to me, you might have entirely different priorities:)

The Dewalt has a lever in back that you just swing out to adjust the angle, very convenient. BUT, when trying to grip the saw to get the most stable hold, that lever in back was often a major annoyance. The Makita uses a hex key (which stores in the base) to adjust the base, much less convenient, but, no lever to constantly get in your way:)

The Makita has an L.E.D. light up front, which was a major selling point for me. The thing is, in practice there were very few instances where I actually needed more light with the un-lighted Dewalt. In fact, staring intently at the cut line and out of your periphery seeing the cast shadow made by the Makita's L.E.D. changing hundreds of times per second, it's disorienting/nauseating. Although you could always just cover the light with a piece of tape like I've done...

They both have blowers to keep your cut line visible and free of debris, and they both suck, especially at low speed, but the Dewalt's really sucks. The worst part about the Dewalt is that right below the trigger from the side vents, you can feel this powerful gust of wind blowing on your hand, but in front where the saw-dust is piling up on your cut line, there's just this anemic whisper:( The Makita's blower, while also anemic, did at least a mediocre/acceptable job of keeping the cut line visible:|

Cutting: The Makita cuts better, FACT! But the Dewalt is taller, which may be why I wasn't able to get as straight a cut with it? Still, the green jig just has this tortoise-like consistency and smoothness, that the yellow Dewalt just isn't able to match.

After much frustration with a Black & Decker jigsaw and a Milwawkee jigsaw that would not cut a straight line or a circle using a guidebar, I have one that will!
I took the Milwaukee jigsaw to the local autherized dealer twice and sent it back to the factory once and it still didn't work properly.
The LED light and effective chip blower make it especially easy to use.

I am a pro carpenter working in the commercial industry and have had many, many different saber saws. My new Makita 4350 is by far the best one. Cut out a sink hole through a laminate counter top like a hot knife on butter. Minimal vibration and very quiet, LED light is cool but the dust fan could be better. Thumbs up here.. and yes you get what you pay for.

I cut through 3" laminated 2x4 with ease. It feels like quality in your hand and performs equally as well. Two items I didn't really like--there is a small piece of plastic "window" where the blade goes through the foot of the saw that popped out the first time I used it. I'm really not sure of the function on this plastic part. Actually I removed it since it dosen't seem to effect the functions of the saw. The only reason I did not give this Makita saw five stars it that the case it comes in is a piece of junk. Too bad Makita does not protect a quality saw with a quality case for the money the saw costs. NO complaints about the saw itself. The LED light is a must since you have to see your line to cut accurately as opposed to cutting with a fence, several other saws do not have this feature.

I built a pergola and decided to shape the ends of the rafters my old jigsaw made a mess of the first attempt, in addition I had ro rig up a light to see the cut line and continually blow the saw dust away.

The Makita has a built in light, motor air discharge takes care of the dust and the cuts are perfect. Excellent product

I love this jigsaw. I had a Bosch before and it was poorly designed. Couldn't keep a vertical cut (seemed gutless) and blade changing was ridiculous. This saw is powerful, makes a nice clean cut in 1.5 inch maple. Blade changing is snap. Was a little confusing as listed in Amazon. Indicated that it was 240v. I realized this after I had purchased. I was very pleasantly surprised to find it was 120v when it arrived.

This is a nice quality jigsaw that makes smooth clean cuts. A bit awkward to fit into the case, but that is not a big deal considering the quality of the item.
