There is little I can say that hasn't already been said so I'll keep it short and sweet:

For the $100 or so I paid for it this saw is a great deal. For the MSRP of over $200 I would look elsewhere, there are better saws for less.

OK a lil' more info:

For the DIY-er who works on something once or twice a month this is a saw that will probably last a lifetime so long as you can bother to remember to change the carbon brushes every now and again and strategically add a drop of oil or 2. The controls are straightforward. The base is very square and strong. The motor is more strong enough for anything you could expect a circular saw to do while also running and starting smoothly, and the blade guard won't bind or catch on stuff. Oh hey, and there is a light too which can come in handy too even in daylight conditions. DIY-ers are set!!

For the contractor who needs something to use and abuse 10 hours a day 5-6 days a week for years on end this saw will be serviceable, even good, but not great. Don't get me wrong, it'll still be a big step up from the cheaper Craftsman or Kobalt mid-tier saws and the Harbor Freight stuff will seem like the total junk it is in comparison. First is that its kind've heavy, particularly compared to the ones with a magnesium ally base. The 2nd is the angle adjustment brackets are made of plastic (flexes/less durable then metal) and have no pre-set angle stops: spending more time playing with adjustments and making sure your cuts are correct means less time doing actual cutting and work!

The blade it comes with is pretty mediocre but good enough for ripping, no one sells a saw with a good blade in the box anyways so I wouldn't ding it for that.

BTW you can make the rule measurements "pop out" on the base by rubbing a crayon (green of course) into them. Only takes a minute or 2 and cleaning up excess is easy with some Goof-Off. Voila, measurements are easy to eye ball once again!

My old circular Skil saw finally bit the dust after about 30 years, so after a bit of research, I settled on this Makita 5007F. A fair amount of my decision of which model to buy rested on my available budget, which was relatively small. After watching prices this one for a while, it went on sale so I grabbed it.

My circular saw use is typical "homeowner"...a few projects a year and a quick cut now and then, so I can't really comment on how it will hold up under very heavy use. I handled a number of DeWalts at the big box stores and all the Makitas I hefted were much better balanced, which will lead to less fatigue during use. The Makitas also felt beefier and had heavier motors. In use, I found it easy to control and it cut very well. I've seen reviews where users complain about the blade guard hanging up on the material at the beginning of a cut, but with the blade depth adjusted correctly for the material, I didn't have that problem even once. The marking on the bottom plate makes it easy to follow your cut line if you're not using a guide or clamped-on fence. (I've added a couple pictures of the plate markings.)

The 5007F does not have a blade brake, which I would have liked, but that adds quite a bit to the cost if you're on a budget. A couple features I do like are the LED lights and the sawdust blower at the back of the saw. The saw weighs in at 11 lbs. and the 8-foot long cord is more than adequate.

Owner's manuals and parts manuals are available to download online free of charge at makitatools.com. Makita offers a 30-day return policy and a 1 year warranty.

You can't get this model with a case, and I haven't been able to find cases for sale separately. I was hoping to use my tusty vintage metal Skil case that held the saw, a few blades and a few small accessories, but I couldn't as the Makita is a bit wider.

This saw is a letdown compared to the one it replaces, the 5007NK. This one does not have the clear measuring marks on the table, or the comfort grip handle. It also doesn't come with a rip guide or a case. The only improvement is that it now has LED lights. Otherwise, if you can still find a 5007NK, GET IT! I also looked at the magnesium one, which also doesn't have the clear measuring marks on the table that the NK has.

My absolute favorite saw. I have been a Carpenter/framer for 15 years and have used this saw pretty much since I started. I've tried and my company has bought other saws, but nothing is like the Makita 5007f. They haven't changed much, why?! Because you don't mess with perfection, it doesn't have all the fancy designs or the laser pointer but if you're a true carpenter, then you don't need all that, it's not a fashion show, it's a reliable, well balanced and powerful TOOL! Best saw, especially at the price!

I have used many circular saws over the years built by various manufacturers and none have ever had the feel and reliability of this Makita. I have one that I bought used in 1995 that is still going strong. Makita has done well by not messing with a good thing too much. The light is a nice addition to what was already a great saw. I have tried the other Makitas but they just don't feel as comfortable as "old faithful".

This is the second of this sinilar model Makita I have purchased, I've had the first one for so long I can't remember exactly when I bought it. Still use it but at the summer place. Needed one here and got tired of hauling the original back and forth. Simply put: these are great, solid and dependable tools. I am weekend woodworker. I do not abuse my tools. I have several Makita tools including an ELECTRIC chain saw that is joy for an old guy.
Yes, I HAVE tried other saws. Last one was red and white and I gave it to a neighbor after the 4th or 5th time I used it. I had a silver and red one for a while but finally junked it when I saw just how OUT of square it was and how the blade was "cocked".
Don't waste your time and money. Buy this saw the first time. Odds are you will be using it twenty years from now.

So far this saw has been great. The only complaint I have is that is was advertised to have an electric brake but it doesn't.
