5.0 out of 5 stars Great saw, July 24, 2003
This review is from: Makita 5007FAK 7-1/4-Inch 15 Amp Circular Saw with Light and Brake (Tools & Home Improvement)
OK, I admit it. I'm a circular saw junkie. I have just about every one currently on the market. And other than the Bosch with wormdrive and the Porter trim saw, this is my favorite saw. And for general use, this is the saw I reach for the most often. I just built a hutch compound for some of my animals with my Makita and I hated when the project was done. I wanted to keep sawing. This saw is light and durable and when paired with the DeWalt blades, it is amazing to use. As to the bevel limitations, they have never become an issue with this saw. I just use a miter saw or a trim saw for angles over 45 degrees.

the makita 7-1/4" saw is what i have been using for about 3 years.its my favorite saw over the 3 other brands we have to choose from in the job trailer.it has some draw backs like it only has up to 45 degrees of bevel. and the deck supports can "with a little ruff use" knock the bevel gauge outa wack.and in about 10 months of every day work will loosen the blade shaft.the deck adjustment lever tends to loosen but can it self be readjusted "try a little extra tightening".still its so light that its easier to make a good cut and it wont wear you out to soon. its a good saw.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best I have ever worked with, November 15, 2003

The Makita 5007 FAK is the best standard circular saw I have ever worked with. I love the electric brake because for me the sooner the blade stops the better. It is light-weight compared to a lot of the other saws I have tried or used before. The best part about this saw in particular is the light. I can't count the number of times we have been out on the job sight and this has come in handy. It may cost a little more than some saws, but it is worth it for someone who uses a saw five or six days a week! Nice carring case too.

Miter scale hard to read
Indexing guide on base plate is not accurate (watch the blade relative to the cut line).
Brake is inconsistent.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE SAW, July 25, 2011

This review is from: Makita 5007FAK 7-1/4-Inch 15 Amp Circular Saw with Light and Brake (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought my first one about 20 years ago, beat it to death framing houses, dropped it off scaffolds, threw it a few times, it wouldn't die, I finally retired it after 10 years it and got a new one, that one lasted 5 years till some numb skull dropped something on it and cracked the housing, so I got another one. This saw doesn't vibrate, is well balanced, and light weight, I've used other saws over the years but I would never buy any saw but this one.

I added this saw to my tool shed for my more heavy cutting. In particular I wanted the electric brake. I also have two of the lighter home-owners Makitas which I love for doing less heavy and "dirty" (masonry and metal) cutting. The 5007FAK handles well despite its greater weight and size. With a little practice I am now able to make smooth, accurate cuts that rival those I make on my big table saw. The feeling is that this saw will last forever. It is definitely a step or two up from the past Craftsman and basic Skil saws I have owned. They all burned up and/or wore out after only a few years of use. My oldest (about 20 years old) entry level Makita is getting tired but still keeps cutting.

This is such a basic tool that everyone should own one. I especially like the light and the overall feel of this. It has tons of power and had held up increadibly well. I will probably buy an 18v cordless one soon for tasks I don't feel like running extension cords for. That said, I cannot find a single flaw with this.

Hands down my favorite power tool. Light and versatile. Comes with two blades and the guide. The biggest problem I have is everyone borrowing it.

This is a very nice saw. Only complaint is that it may be a little underpowered.
