More valuable than you could imagine,

I originally bought this for one special use: to cut drywall once it was on the wall. I never intended to use it for anything else. After some experimenting with it, I use this tool more often for more tough wood cuts than any other tool I have. It can cut 3/4" hardwood plywood cleanly and easily without shredding the edges, and if you need to make an angle cut into plywood, it does it cleanly and easily. This also makes incredible cuts in 3/4", 1/2", and 3/8" hardwood flooring and 3/8" Pergo. It's front sight-guide is perfectly aligned to the blade, so if you draw a line on the wood first, this will cut perfectly in the center of the line. The thin blades are the exact width of the line drawn by a normal construction pencil. If you are going to do a lot of cuts in a day (150+ feet), you will want a second battery handy. For blades, if you can't find 3 3/8 blades, you can use 3 1/2 blades with no problem (most hardware stores carry some nice ones for as little as [amount]). I have a table saw, sliding compound mitre saw, jigsaw, and many other kinds of saws, but I use this one more than any other. All of my friends have now after I brought this to their house to use (since it is so small, portable, and ultralight).

I am a woman who is 4'11" and in my fifties, I couldn't see myself with a regular circular saw, they were all too heavy and scary. I used this to cut large sheets of 1/4" plywood into perfectly cut sub-floor pieces for my bathroom all by myself. It worked fantastically. Now I feel like I can make anything and do my own home repairs!

This is the third one of these I have bought over 20 years. They are great! I do abuse mine alot, but I still go back to buying the same saw. It is small, convenient. One thing is to get the carbide blade for it, they seem to last alot longer.

This is a great tool to have around for those last minute cuts, cutouts, and trimming that you don't want to lug around a large or heavy saw that needs to be plugged in. It's amazing how time conscious and lazy I've gotten. The price is great but it's underpowered. The newer version uses the common 14.4v batteries for Makita but the larger (and heavier) batteries give the saw a different feel in the hand and balance. It is also $75 more. A little of this, a little less of that.

This is a permanent addition to my tool box. I use it for everthing (obviously not when I'm framing). You can get a ceramic blade, carbide wood blade, and the regular thin kerf steel blade. It gets used quite a bit in the post-framing stages of a project. Handy and cuts though most materials. The other cordless saws are too big and I just use my circular (corded) for those jobs, this is small enough to go with me in my tool box. I love it becuase I'm on the job everyday, however I'm not sure how helpful it would be to the occasional user unless it was always charged which is not practical most times.

I bought this because it was the smallest cordless circular saw I could find. The project I bought it for was patching in old damaged siding on my house. It was a bonus that I already had a 9.6v Makita drill because you can never have too many batteries and chargers! The blade that came with it didn't last very long so I bought a carbide tipped blade. What a difference! I was amazed at how much better it cut and how much longer the charge lasted. It also gave a wider cut so there is less chance of binding.

I purchased this saw to cut wood siding around my old windows so I could remove them to replace with new windows. This saw is small and very portable ... excellent when standing 20 feet in the air on a ladder. I could not have done the job without it! It also does a great job on drywall inside the house.

I'm a 75 year old widow and I still enjoy repairing things around my house. My old circular was just too heavy, so I purchased the cordless circular saw and I just love it. I love not having a cord to worry about or tripping over. LOL..at this age I sometimes forget those important things that could prove a danger to me. So now my steps (5) are looking good. Thanks Makita. I also used my Makita cordless drill to put in the screws. No strength left for hammering nails into those boards.

When I received this, I first noticed that the blade guard was very sticky. It certainly would not have safely moved out of the way if I were to push the saw through wood. The handle on the blade guard is made out of thin sheet metal, so when I tried to use the handle to move the guard, the handle bent very easily. I was already discouraged, but I fired it up, and the blade rotated so slowly, I decided to send the whole thing back. Instead I bought a Craftsman #10872. This is a saw that is similar to the Makita, but it runs off AC, and rotates at 2800 RPM. It is very well put together, and includes a case, laser sight, work light, and carbide blade for $110.

I needed a tool to cut through about 3/4" of underlayment and cut as close as possible to a wall and a toe kick under some cabinets. A regular saw was too big and tall. This saw just did the job. It spins slower than you might think, and the blade is very thin leaving a kerf only a pencil line wide. Very little dust and noise is a plus when working in a confined space. The battery didn't last very long, only about 10 - 15 feet per charge, but this was a TOUGH job for such a little tool. I suspect you can get much further in lighter material. I had to cut some 1/4" plywood with it (in place cuts on a back panel of a cabinet). It was surprising how straight the line was when cutting by hand (not wavy like a jig saw). Also, a very clean cut.
This one's staying in my toolbox. I might even get a spare battery and some more blades. It's a keeper. |
