Battery Drill,

This review is from: Makita 6270DWPE 12-volt Ni-Cad 3/8-inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great light weight drill with plenty of power. I bought it because I thought Makita would stop making the 12v. Seems like everybody wants more and more power. More power means more weight. I personally dont like lugging around a ten pound weight! Anyway this drill has enough power to drive in lag screws in wood without pilot holes. Is that enough power for you. Make sure you buy the 6270 model. It has removable brushes. There are other Makita models that are cheaper but dont have the power. Buy extra batterys incase they quit making the 12v model. Good luck! "Johan"

Have been looking for a good 12v drill of late and one that is relatively inexpensive. With cordless drills you cant go for the sub $50 ones from the hardware outlets as the batteries are usually poor quality or the drill itself is gutless, so I sprung for this Makita. Yes the batteries are the old NiCad variety, they take longer to charge etc etc, but NiCad are still also one of the most reliable batteries with long service life if properly maintained and cared for. I have Makita's 18v Lithium drill also which is great but its Makitas budget one (The BDF462HW). What prompted me to buy this particular drill is that the charger CAN be used to charge the Makita Ni-Mh batteries as well as NiCad (from 7.2 - 14.4v), and I plan to buy some 12v NiMh batteries to use with this drill, although it does come with 2 batteries as standard.
Anyway the drill seems solidly built (although manufactured in China - what isnt these days?) and it sure has plenty of torque. Seems as much as my 18v lithium even? The drill is comfortable to hold and has very positive torque setting ring for accurate driving of fasteners. I have used it to drill and drive just about all types of wood and materials (except stone/masonry) as it doesnt have a hammer feature. But basically, for $99 this is great value and should not be overlooked just because it is 12v. It has more guts than most 18v cheapy drills and is probably much better manufactured as well.

I am so pleased with this Makita cordless drill. Love it, love it, love it. It replaced a Craftsman 15 volt which would not keep a charge. This Makita 12 volt has more power than the Craftsman 15, and is so much lighter in weight that it makes any typical household use go easier. I would recommend it to anyone who needed one for this purpose. And as always, Amazon delivery was prompt, price can't be beat.
