Very Dissapointing Drill,

This review is from: Makita 6280DWPE 3/8-Inch 14.4-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless Drill/Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I own a number of cordless drills ranging from Porter-Cale to no-name, low-end throw aways. I bought this drill 6 weeks ago for light duty use in my wood shop. With poor run times and a chuck that doesn't hold, I called Makita to complain. They told me it was a good drill but that you get what you pay for and I shouldn't expect much from this product. Quite frankly, neither this drill nor their service meet basic levels and I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone.

I have owned several Makita products and have been a satisfied customer over many years.
This was a replacement for the older version of the same drill, but unlike the older Makita cordless this one fails to retain a grip on the bit after even a small amount of use. This is true whether it is being used to drill holes or as a screwdriver. In the mode of unscrewing it is completely hopeless. Given this info I would definitely not buy this product again. This is not to say that Makita makes bad products, but that there is a serious flaw in this model.

Got this drill as gift. Very impressed so far. The drill has a nice balance to it and has plenty of power for any task a homeowner will throw at it. I like the fact that the drill is small in size and light weight. This is not an industrial grade contractor tool. It is geared more towards the average homeowner. And it fits that bill perfectly. The batteries charge in about 30 min. The 1.3 ah Ni-cad batteries included in this kit dont last as long as the latest Li-ion batteries do but those batteries also cost twice as much too.
If you are looking for an industrial grade tool with max power and run time look elsewhere. If you need a cordless drill to tackle weekend projects and the "honey do" list this is your drill.

love at first sight,
This review is from: Makita 6280DWPE 3/8-Inch 14.4-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless Drill/Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
ordered this item from tool barn because I couldn't find it on amazon. next day saw it on amazon and had my doubts after reading other review. I have had a couple of Bosch 14.4v and they do take alot of abuse. Can't count the amount of times Ive dropped them from 10 feet and up. both lasted for building one house a piece. The last one the batteries and chuck were shot. I also have an 18v ridgid which has served me well thropugh this last house and is still holding up good except that both batteries are now dead.I was loking for a more compact drill to carry on my belt that would be less obtrusive. Considered the hitachi, but it just didn't look sturdy enough,so I ordered this Makita. Fell in love the minute I opened the box. Perfect feel, easily drives 3inch screws and it's compactness really faciltates working in awkward spaces. I havn't dropped it yet from 10 feet but I get the feeling it will survive. This is my cordless drill that I have ever owned.I only now wish I had ordered it with the flashlight to compliment it, but who knew I would fall in love. I would hope that Makita might take notice of my unsolicited testimonial and recognize it's value by sending me one

Disappointing Quality,

When my thirteen-year-old Makita cordless drill packed it in, I bought model 6280 DWRE as a replacement. I was shocked when I opened the box up to see its apparent cheap quality. I thought Makita meant top quality. Not so. Next time I'll definitely comparison shop before buying.

Some of the product descriptions on Makita products are in error. This drill is listed having 2.0Ah batteries. The drill ships with 1.3Ah batteries. I recieved a replacement today with the 1.3Ah batteries again.
This drill is fine for occasional users, but for a little more you can get the Makita 6337DWDE 14.4 volt with Ni-MH batteries. Note the the header on this product is wrong because it says the batteries are Ni-Cad. Makita assured me that the product will come with the Ni-MH batteries. |
