Get the 6339 Instead!,
By Andrea F "James F" (NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Makita 6336DWDE 14.4V ½-inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This drill was a free bonus from Makita when I bought my 14.4 volt impact driver. The drill is a nice, heavy duty piece, but a little underpowered at 350 in lbs of torque. The chuck is a nice ratcheting design, and hols bits securely. The 2.6 amp hour nimh batteries have supurb run time. The cheap plastic case was a definite turn off, as parts had broken off it in transit. The new improved MXT drills from Makita have more power and a three speed gearbox.

Silky smooth drill. Batteries run forever.,

The keyless chuck turns so smooth, if you keep it clean. Feels like some well made, precision machined components in there. With one flick of your thumb the bit is in place and you can tighten it up. I have had drill bits slip several times so I have to really crank on the chuck to be sure its tight.
These batteries run forever. Even under heavy drilling they still last quite a long time. If your wrists and forearms are not strong, you'll find this drill heavy and very powerful. If you're a pro who uses it every day than your're probably already used to the weight. The torque is such that one of my socket adapter attachments got a little bent because the the drill kicked when my fastener went as far as it would go (I was using to put on lug nuts.) Hurt my wrist and tweaked my adapter thingy. NOw I know to slow down when they're almost on. This drill is almost powerful enough to warrant a side handle. My skinny wrists could use one. [...] That was a smokin'deal for a drill of this caliber.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Makita 6336DWDE 14.4V ½-inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased two of these to replace a couple of similar sized Dewalts that I was not completely satisfied with. I run a part time furniture and cabinet custom shop and really depend on the tools I purchase to hold up well under heavy use. These Makita drills do just that. I looked for the heavy duty version with all metal transmission, heavy duty chuck and external replacement brush option to stand up to the job.
If you want to make a purchase that will do tuff work in a mid sized package and hold up well, this model is the one. The build quality is outstanding and they hold a charge very well. Again, these are mid sized drills, don't expect them to compete with much larger models. If you're into deck building they may not be big enough but if you want a strong drill without weighing in at ten pounds check these out. I will purchase a couple more of these in the next couple of months to replace a couple other lesser built competitive models.
