5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the best.
I always been very happy with my very old Makita drill after 15 years of hard work my 9.6 volt 3/8 drive needed to be replace. My new Makita feels great and what a great drill I can tell this drill will last me for another 15 years or more.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad Batteries
The drill was great...lots of torque (1.5" auger bits through 3" of wood no problem. Now 2.5 years later, both battery packs are dead and will not hold a charge. Replacements are $70 each (it came with 2) making the cost to own this thing about $70/yr. This is pathetic. I think the Ni-MH battery has poor life in low temps because I have not used this that much over...

I believe that a Makita tool is the best other than the Dewalt tools. I use this product with overall satisfaction. I use it to drill holes in 14 gauge steel plates without burn out. The battery running time is greater than I thought it would be in cordless tools. I inject a charged battery for every four hours of the construction job that I use it for. There is lots of drilling, and screwdriving screws into wooden frames. The screwdriver capcacity I do not need to charge the battery til every two days at a normal use. For those local union carpenters, this product is better than Dewalt corded or cordless. This is a great tool comes with two batteries, I am happy with the product and glad I purchased the product here at Amazon.

My husband has bought a few cheaper drills over the years only to have them break, malfunction, or sizzle-out after a short period of time. He wanted this drill for Christmas. Of course, all I could see at first was the price-tag. I'm happy to report, he's using this drill all the time and it works great, has not had one problem, and he has no buyers remorse (nor do I)! My brother-in-law built his home and this was the only drill he used throughout the project. You can imagine the use it had over the last 18 months and it is still going strong. I guess you get what you pay for. If you use cordless drills often and don't want to hassle with the $39 drills that break or quit working then this is the one for you. Keep in mind, these are the type of quality drills that contractors buy. We're happy with the purchase.

I think the Ni-MH battery has poor life in low temps because I have not used this that much over the last year, but it is outside in my garage. Anyway, a $260 drill shouldn't need $140 in batteries every 2 years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tough Tool, February 24, 2009
This review is from: Makita 6349DWDE 18-Volt Ni-MH 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have been using this tool for about four years and I love it. The motor is extremely strong and never gives up. The clutch is accurate even for small screws (although for the smaller ones I always use my compact driver) I've really put this tool through its paces including using it to mix tile thinset and grout (normaly done with a bigger drill like a Hole Hawg but we were in a pinch). This tool continues to run just as it did the day I bought it. I recommend it to everyone.

great drill.
was hoping that it would be a good one, and it really is.
Buying online can be a little scary, but it is always good when you receive what you think you are going to get.
happy holidays.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Battery life, April 6, 2007
This review is from: Makita 6349DWDE 18-Volt Ni-MH 1/2-Inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is my fourth Makita cordless and I am very disappointed with how long the batteries have lasted. It is about 1 1/2 years old and used 2 or 3 times a week on average. The batteries do not hold a charge as long as they should. My 8 year old 14 volt with the original batteries can outlast this guy. And mine was a specail deal with 3.0 amp batteries.

The drill it self is great and works very well. The repeatability of the clutch is very good. If it wasn't for the batteries going south so soon I would have rated it 4 or 5 stars.
