5.0 out of 5 stars Great drill
Its light and has a self tightening chuck. Don't have to use a key. Also it is variable at the trigger

1.0 out of 5 stars Self destructing Drill
The motor is more powerfull than the gears. The first time a bit got hung up, the motor stripped out the gears. I expected a lot more from Makita, and have to say this was the last Makita purchase for me.

The gears on mine stripped when a spade bit jammed...sounded like nylon teeth skipping. This is not a rugged tool. The "keyless" chuck should also be called a "gripless" chuck.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, comfortable drill, March 27, 2008

I bought this drill about 6 years ago while in the middle of a flooring project. The cheap Craftsman 19.6V cordless I had was not driving the screws into the subfloor. At the time I could not afford a large Makita cordless (which I now have) and I figured getting a corded drill would allow me to not have to worry about running out of power. This little guy did the trick. It was comfortable and unlike other users I did not have any issue with stripping gears.

For the most part I use my 18V cordless Makita now, but when I need two drills for a project I bring this guy out and I am never disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars not worth its cost, July 31, 2007

Thought i was getting a steal on this when I saw it at sears for 20 bucks. Now though, I'm sorry i bought it. When they listed this as a drill, as apposed to a drill/driver, they weren't kidding; This drills low end torque is terrible: any attempt to drive an piloted screw will, at best, result in the drill stalling, and, when you increase the power, instantly stripping the screw.

Unless you plan on using a second tool for driving, do your self a favor and look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fine Drill, December 1, 2003

This is a good drill. It's a small drill for just about all small jobs we get to work at home. My wife and kids use it with no problems. It's easy for them because the don't have to use annoying tools to secure the drill bit. I use it my self when I don't see the need to pull out a big heavy drill to do the job, which in my case is more than 99% of the time at home. So I decided on this Makita model because it is a brand name with a solid reputation, which usually means it will last for a long time.

Lasted 12 years for me. Replaced the chuck once instead of buying a new drill. I beat on this thing, using it for purposes that it was never designed for, smoking the brushes on multiple occasions (need a bigger drill to stir thin set mortar, but this powered through!). Finally died yesterday and I'm a bit sad. If I had a shelf for dead tools that served me well, this would take front and center.
