5.0 out of 5 stars Optimal Design, March 24, 2005
By
This review is from: Makita 6932FDWDEX 14.4-Volt Impact Driver Kit with L.E.D. Light with Free 6337D Driver-Drill (Tools & Home Improvement)
The first thing I noticed about the driver when I snapped the battery in was how much lighter it was than my friend's Dewalt.

Of course, that made me nervous as light = cheap. My paranoia was increased when I pulled the trigger and found that not only was it quieter than the Dewalt, but the reactionary force from the spinning motor felt much diminished as well.

For some reason, all of these things gave me a foreboding until I started working with it. The impacting action was the same and the screws flew into the deck I was building almost as fast as the Dewalt. I slowly began to realize that the lighter weight made the work much more tolerable, even though I never considered the Dewalt as "heavy."

Both the drill and the driver also have handy do-dads that probably should have been included in cordless drills since their invention, such as the drill-bit holders on the base of the drill, and the LED on the driver. I thought the light was a bit superfluous, but there I was tacking-in posts for a front porch and was glad it was there to light up the dark corners.

As I said before, the Dewalt is a little faster, but it's also heavier, the batteries don't last nearly as long, the handle isn't nearly as comfortable to hold while operating, and it doesn't have the LED, which will of course seem preposterous until you need it.

five stars, all the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very compact, battery lasts a long time, February 13, 2005
This review is from: Makita 6932FDWDEX 14.4-Volt Impact Driver Kit with L.E.D. Light with Free 6337D Driver-Drill (Tools & Home Improvement)
I use this driver every month to fabricate wood handicap ramps, 3" deck screws into treated lumber. No need to push it hard, just enough to keep the bit engaged. Far fewer stripped screw heads than with regular drills, corded or cordless. The battery has plenty of charge; I have not had to wait for the second battery to finish charging before swapping it in.
This is a very strong driver - there is NOT a clutch as you find on drill drivers. In soft wood, the screw head just keeps sinking further into the wood. In hard wood, the screw head will twist off if driven too far. It IS somewhat noisy when the impact feature engages, so you may want to consider ear plugs for continuous use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice tool, pick one up when you get the chance., July 8, 2005
This review is from: Makita 6932FDWDEX 14.4-Volt Impact Driver Kit with L.E.D. Light with Free 6337D Driver-Drill (Tools & Home Improvement)
I had seen the Makita in a store, and liked the features, but had not used one. Having the impact tool seemed like over kill but I thought I would try it, and it was my birthday. Turns out that the impact tool is very easy to use, great low speed control, and works well even with small screws. The body is small, and gets into tight corners easily. The drill is great too, the chuck is hand tightened, and has internal ratcheting that can easily hold any drill bit without slipping. The shift from drilling to driving without losing the clutch setting is very nice. The tool case was not made to hold the Impact driver, so I had to modify the plastic with a knife, and move the foam padding to stop the tools from bouncing around. The case does have plenty of space for two sets of bits and a third battery if I get one.

What an incredible tool- This thing drives lags and long screws without the effort or stripping of a drill. The free drill bonus made it a no brainer. The 2 NIMH batteries last for extremely long periods even under extreme duty. The compact size, light weight and worklight all add up to making this the go to tool for all your driving needs!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing power in a small, lightweight tool, June 26, 2005
This review is from: Makita 6932FDWDEX 14.4-Volt Impact Driver Kit with L.E.D. Light with Free 6337D Driver-Drill (Tools & Home Improvement)
I find my Makita Impact Driver is in my hands far more often than any other of my drills or corded screw shooters. I looked at Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Hitachi, but I still have a fine old 9-volt Makita drill and liked the idea of being able to use one charger for all my cordless tools. It was a great decision.

The light weight and compact size of the Makita makes it easy to pick up, easy to carry, and easy to use. I didn't want a tool belt any heavier than absolutely necessary, nor was I interested in weight-training with an 18-volt drill or driver.

After I put in 17 4x8 sheets of subflooring with my 1/2 inch corded Milwaukee drill I could feel it in my arms and wrists for days. I got the Makita and installed 2x2 firring using 3 to 4-inch screws. The impact driver was much easier than a regular drill - and much faster as well.

Accessories I recommend include the Milwaukee bit holder 48-32-3025, the DeWalt Drywall dimpler DW2014B4, and the Makita "shorty" bit holder. The dimpler limits the depth of a screw in sheetrock, but be careful because the impact driver grips screw heads so tightly that care is needed to prevent over setting the screw. Note: adjustable dimplers work on a regular drill but will not hold their setting with the impact driver.

The Makita "shorty" bit holder is great for larger screws, especially in less than perfect positions where the sleeve can hold the screw straight and one can start the screw with only one hand. I use the Milwaukee bit holder the most because it is simply the strongest and least likely to bend or break if the tool is dropped.

My thanks to Amazon for explaining the free 14.4 volt drill offer from Makita. I use the drill for augering through lumber and tasks that are too much for my 9-volt. I still use my almost 20 year old 9-volt Makita, and I fully expect to be using my now 6-month old Makitas twenty years from now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makita 6932FDWDEX 14.4V Impact Driver Kit with L.E.D. Light, May 29, 2005
This review is from: Makita 6932FDWDEX 14.4-Volt Impact Driver Kit with L.E.D. Light with Free 6337D Driver-Drill (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is unlike any other tool out there. Using this impact driver reminds me of my first Makita cordless drill some 20 years ago ( 7.2 volt or something like that). It changed the way I worked, and so does this impact driver. Stripped out screw heads are a thing of the past with this awesome tool. The bonus driver drill is nicely balanced and works like a Makita should, all day long. I've used the impact driver to build decks, put in tech screws, and install lag bolts. I wish I had one of these babies years ago. The LED light is perfect for us old timers.
A must have for any builder/carpenter/auto body mechanic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Driver Drill Combo, November 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Makita 6932FDWDEX 14.4-Volt Impact Driver Kit with L.E.D. Light with Free 6337D Driver-Drill (Tools & Home Improvement)
Truly rare find on a late generation makita kit, brand new condition with two batteries and charger.More punch than the latest generation 18 volt inpact driver though the drill chuck is inferior on gripping drill bits but works great with inserts that have flats.Ive perchased the next generation 14.4 kit so i allready knew the drills downsides but was worth the money to replace my impact driver.grab this kit if you want a quality all around makita product at a fraction of the cost of a new 18v kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT impact driver, February 20, 2007
This review is from: Makita 6932FDWDEX 14.4-Volt Impact Driver Kit with L.E.D. Light with Free 6337D Driver-Drill (Tools & Home Improvement)
I also have the 18V model but prefer this one. Plenty of power, torque, great battery run time, and fairly compact size make this my favoriet tools for any task involving screws.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product.........5 Stars except for Case w/Bonus Drill, December 13, 2006
This review is from: Makita 6932FDWDEX 14.4-Volt Impact Driver Kit with L.E.D. Light with Free 6337D Driver-Drill (Tools & Home Improvement)
I would have rated this 5 stars if the case were designed to hold the bonus drill I received with the impact driver. I found that I have to select the lock or neutral position of the forward/reverse switches as the case was only designed for one drill. Both fit but several times when carrying them one of the drills made contact with the other drill trigger and started to run in the closed case.

The drill driver (free tool) is great and has excellent run time as well as the impact driver. I have used the impact driver with a 1/4" socket adapter and impact socket to remove boat trailer tires. I even carry this along on trips in case of a flat. It beats a hand wrench. It has amazing power for a 14.4 volt unit. I've used it at work the past two seasons to assemble summer outdoor furniture (swing sets, park benches, etc.) It cut the assembly time by 2/3's. You just have to watch yourself without the torque settings it will snap screw and bolt heads in a second.

Several of my friends laughed at some of the uses I've put it through until they saw it in action.

I received it as part of drill driver combo last Xmas. I have used only a few times. It does what it is suppose to. LED - not sure if it is helpful. If you are driving a lag bolt in a countersink the LED is not bright enough. I have to stop and check every few seconds to make sure I don't over do it. Otherwise it works great!
