5.0 out of 5 stars Looks heavy duty, January 13, 2011

I bought this bag to hold as many tools as possible. The number of inside and outside pockets on this thing is amazing. I especially found the outside pockets more useful than the inside ones to put all my smaller things. The outside pockets all close up either with velcro or zippers which is great. Because the outside pockets are pouches and not slit pockets found on other tool bags, you gain a lot more storage room beyond the standard specs of this bag (26x14x14).

As for the inside, you will lose a slight bit of storage room due to the rails for the retractable pulling handle, but not very much. What I think is neat are the two padded side pockets which look like gun holsters, but obviously made for drills. I used one of the pockets to hold my Makita drill and the other one for my Arrow staple gun. These two holsters have a velcro strap to hold the tool in place. Near the top on the other side are 3 more inner pockets which appear designed to hold Makita 18v 3.0ah batteries. I used a couple of those pockets exactly for that purpose.

Quality-wise, I can tell this bag is made of strong material. I think somewhere I found info saying it was made of 600 denier material. I have looked around at similar bags which had 600 denier and I do have to agree this bag looks like 600 denier. It definitely looks durable and when I loaded it up with about 50 pounds of tools, I picked it up by the straps and can tell this sucker is super strong. Keep in mind there are 1680 denier bags out there and this bag is not as thick as those, but it's definitely thick enough and is plenty strong already.

Just like other reviewers, I wonder how strong the telescopic rolling handle is because it seems no different from the telescopic handles used in typical luggage, but the bag itself is top quality. I tried rolling the fully loaded bag around and it seems to be ok.

I read other reviews about the zipper. I don't know which part of the zipper broke on them and which part they said was plastic. The actual zippering mechanism (the slider?) I got was metal, but the zipper itself I can't tell if the teeth are plastic or not; looks like it's made of some kind of nylon material; don't think it's metal. I do have to say the zipper (not the slider) looks a bit thin, but it seems there is no stress on it when I lift the bag so I don't think it's going to be a problem for me unless I really try to overstuff this bag and close the top.

Overall, this is a top quality bag and fits my needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!, September 19, 2009

Buying more Makita LXT tools after the purchase of the original set (which came with its own case), I did not have room to store and transport all the tools in the single bag. This bag is just like the original that came with the set, except it has wheels and a handle. Works great. All the right pockets for Makita tools and batteries. Inexpensive, fast delivery and the product was as advertized. What more do you want?

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Carpenters, July 23, 2010

This review is from: Makita 831269-3 Large LXT Contractor Tool Bag with Wheels (Misc.)
This is a great contractors/carpenters bag. It has tons of pockets on the outside for everything from safety glasses,to bandaids, to torpedo levels, cellphone, etc. The inside also has a couple of pockets/dividers which were designed for batteries but i use for my other smaller tools and sockets. The bag is large enough for me to fit a 2-foot nail bar, 2 framers hammers, tool belt with tools attached, hard hat, some extra shirts, 1 GAL water jug) and quite a bit of extra space for any special tools i may not normally carry. It has plenty, if not too much room, for most carpenters i know but i appreciate the extra space so i can fit whatever i need whenever i need it. The sides and top are padded which is a nice plus so that when i bang into things and the occasional person in NYC it doesn't hurt them or my tools so much. My only gripe with the bag so far is that the retractable pull handle has questionable quality as do the wheels. The retractable pull handle is already loose/wobbly and i've only had the bag for a month but sometimes these retractable luggage handles get loose and can stay that way for years so we'll see. The wheels, which are your standard cheap plastic luggage wheel, also seem to be of questionable quality. With a beefier pull handle and some replaceable inline skate wheels this could be an unstoppable bag for the carpenter/contractor on the daily move. The way it is, it's still a solid bag. And if it breaks, it was only $33 with free shipping when i got it so no biggie.

UPDATE: Sept.2010 - the wheels and pull handle are holding up so far. I didn't think the wheels would be able to handle the weight and abuse i put this bag through on a daily basis but so far so good. Like i said in my earlier review. This bag could be unstoppable with a good quality pull handle (think Samsonite), and a nice set of user replaceable dual inline skate wheels and bearings on each side in the rear.

This bag is pretty much the same bag that comes with the 4 piece kit, it just has wheels. My original bag ripped and this was a great replacement!

Only good if you make modifications the bottom plate needs more support in order to not damage the handle when carying a heavy load of tools , I used 3 peices of 3/4 plywood to stifen up the plate

5.0 out of 5 stars Makita Tool Bag, February 4, 2011

I could not believe how nice the tool bag is.
I've been to Lowes and Homedepot and believe me
you will not find a tool bag so nice, so cheap.
This tool bag was just what I was looking for in
quality and craftsmanship. The Best tool bag Homedepot
had was smaller and it cost twenty dollars more and it
wasn't even name brand. Thanks alot You have a customer
for life.
