5.0 out of 5 stars USA made chainsaw helmet
Helmet is Tasco (they make safety products). Face screen is not identified as USA made but since everything fits together it is probably also Tasco. It is an aluminum mesh shield... just like a black wire screen door. It took about 30 seconds to snap everything together without instructions which are printed on the plastic bag. The helmet straps could not be snapped into...

This is safety equipment, and safety equipment that doesn't do what it is designed to doesn't deserve even one star. If I could give this zero stars I would. This is safety equipment, and safety equipment that doesn't do what it is designed to doesn't deserve even one star. If I could give this zero stars I would. This is supposed to protect your head from impact, your eyes from flying debris, and your ears from noise. It does the first two, but because the earmuffs interfere with the helmet and its suspension system, they do not protect your hearing anywhere near the degree advertised. This product should never have made it to market. Buy the Husqvarna model instead. (I have both.)

I will avoid Tasco products in the future. I'd wonder why Makita put their name on this, but actually the name didn't appear anywhere except on the box. Still, if Makita had any regard for their reputation they would stop associating themselves with this fraudulent device.

5.0 out of 5 stars USA made chainsaw helmet, December 19, 2010
This review is from: Makita 841001-A Commercial Grade Landscaping Combo Helmet with Orange Hard Hat, Face Screen, and Earmuff by Tasco (Lawn & Patio)
The helmet straps could not be snapped into place without using a blunt tool - dull screwdriver, end of slipjoint pliers, etc.

The USA made ear protection NRR rating is 22 but the individual frequency dB ratings are all above 33 in the chainsaw frequency range. They even worked well with my wire frame glasses. The inside of the foam cushions were scratchy. I turned them upsidedown - that was better. There is no way to fix them; they attach to the ear pieces with self adhesive tape. The ear pieces slid up and down on the side pieces; it would be nicer if they locked in place.

This was not my first choice; it was sent to us on Amazon with a gift card from a seller who could not provide the one I wanted. How's that for customer satisfaction?

5.0 out of 5 stars nice for the price, October 26, 2009

I read all the other reviews about how hard this was to put together. I had no such problem. Anyone with just a little common sense and a little mechanical ability should have it put together in about 5 minutes. I consider it a nice product for the price.

Easy enough to assemble, but comes apart when you take it off. When on and intact, it performs its protective functions well.

I brought this to use while our church went on a mission trip to Ala. after the tornadoes and to use for personal use at home. This is a quality stuff at a good price. Perfect for what I needed. A friend had me order him the same thing and he was satisfied also.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chainsaw helmet, April 22, 2011

First impressions are good, need to try it in the woods yet. Assembling the helmet was pretty simple and the instructions helped. I had a little trouble with the locking attaching (carrier lug) piece for the face screen as it fell out and had trouble putting it back in. Hope this in not a problem in the future. I did not find any instructions for the plus/minus on the top of the (hearing protector)attachment piece for the face screen and earmuffs. This has me guessing. With the helmet together and ratcheted tight it feels comfortable and stays put when bending over to pick things up. The earmuffs are easy to adjust up and down.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality, April 18, 2011

Save yourself the time and money with this one. Nearly impossible to put together , no instructions, constantly falls apart. Actually I can in no way make it sit securely on my head which means when I use my chainsaw near the ground and look down it wants to fall off forward, blocks my view of what I'm cutting and causes more danger than safety. Very surprised Makita put out such a product, I used to associate them with quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as ADVERTISED , makita; but still a good product, February 21, 2011

I used this Forrestry helmet a couple times now, and its sturdy enough for me to give it a good rating. The helmet is kinda heavy. I use it for stump grinding, so my review is limited to standing in mostly one space working with the helmet. To be honest, I would trust U.S.A made any day of the week vs some poorly made China gear.

The helmet works...mostly. The hearing protection doesn't fit well. I don't think it's really a Makita product. All the lables are "Tasco."
I wouldn't buy this again, but I use it regularly. If I buy another I would look for something built more rugged.
