Options for Random Orbit Sander were only two (in case I'm in Europe):

3.0 out of 5 stars Good But Limited
Does a fine job as a sander but the on/off switch is clumsy to operate. I also wish that it had an adapter for dust collection; I grow so weary of having to always jury rig dust collection. One would think that some designer would consider it. The dust bag is hardly adequate as a dust collector.

Options for Random Orbit Sander were only two (in case I'm in Europe):

1. Bosch GEX 125-1 AE (ROS20VSK)

2. Makita BO5031K

Well... at first, after engineering comparison of both models deep inside (looked at manufacturer's parts layout), we can see, that Bosch has two ball bearings, and Makita has three ball bearings, one of them is oversized for longer tool life. One more thing about Bosch ball bearings: both of them are replaceable only with armature in one piece. It would be very expensive repair after warranty ending.

At second, Makita has more power.

At third, Makita is cheaper.

At fourth, both models perform sanding very well.

At fifth, why pay more for tool, which has less advantages?

I bought Makita BO5031K, and I'm very satisfied. It starts and stops smoothly. On-off switch is protected from dust, comfortable in use, and in case of convenience is identical to Bosch.

This is the best random orbital sander that I have owned. I have purchased a few that just could not hold up, but this one is great. I would buy it again if I were looking for another one.

My first orbital was a Porter Cable, then I bought this to replace a DEWALT that turned out to be defective. I like the features of this one and the ergonomics. It is quieter than my other sanders, the variable speed is smooth. The dust collection is not good unless you hook it to your shop vac. This is a good value weekend warrior sander for finishing work. If you need aggressive sanding I recommend a half sheet sander not an orbital.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sands the way it should, November 28, 2011
This review is from: Makita BO5031K 5-Inch Random Orbit Sander Kit (Tools & Home Improvement)
this thing does a good job. I haven't used the slow settings yet, since I'm just ripping lacquer off of a dresser for a refinish. the only gripe I have is that if you start it before placing it on the wood it's very easy to gouge the wood surface with the edge of the pad/sanding portion.

This unit is quiet, and the bag collection system works GREAT. really impressive. I have used a buddy's dewalt palm sander and this orbital sander was far superior in dust collection and vibration (as you'd expect from a random orbital sander).

Great unit.
