After using up two combo kits from DeWalt (1 14.4 &1 18 ) One from Porter cable (19.2v)And Two from Craftsman (18v)in the last 3 years , I finally stepped up to real tools with many real world benefits. I Love the solid, balanced feel. They work all day. They really are superior tools. For instance, with heavy use the output shaftof many cordless drills gets loose and floppy. Makita chose a metal gear case with a large ball bearing support for its massive output shaft. This means no floppy chucks and smoother operation. The motor is physically larger, also supported with ball bearings. This enables the unit to produce higher torque with more efficiency than the others. This means longer life,But more importantly, it means MORE POWER !The saw just walks through 2x10's. At the same time it is quite capable of producine fine cuts for trim. The light is is on par with any 18v light.I do have a little trouble removing the batteries from it though. All in all the best combo kit on the planet.

SMALL PACKAGE WITH POWER TO SPARE...,

You can't beat this combo. Both pieces have more power than seems possible without a pain in the ass cord to trip over. The saw cuts through 3/4" plywood like butter and the drill dials in to delicate screw driving and out to masonry drilling power. All in a light easy to handle package.

New to the home improvement and craft scene, I've spent a lot of time researching and trying different power tools. I have limited use of my hands and am not very strong so tool weight and balance are as important as performance. This Makita 18V combo provides all that and more. The saw has incredible balance making crosscutting staight lines a breeze. I also love that the blade is on the left so you don't have to look over your hands at what you are cutting. The saw does the work. Most 18V drill/drivers are heavy especially for overhead work - again the balance on the Makita takes a lot of the muscle strain and stress out of the work. I own other brands of saws and drivers for other purposes and never thought I could handle a big 18V - not true with Makita. If my husband is really good I might let him use it - once! God I love cutting wood and my Makita combo makes it a joy.

Makita Attack Pac,

Finally a drill that will do what is pictured on the box. The Makita 18v with all metal housing will spin a 1 1/4 ship auger bit without stripping out the clutch, and/or housing. It will also spin a 4"-6" hole saw in double 5/8" drywall or 3/4" plywood. The circ saw has a large table for stable cutting at the slower RPM. Too often, in the field, cordless saws are compared to their corded counterparts and recieve bad marks. This saw will change the reviews

Did you know That Makita teamed up with Energizer on their latest line of batteries ? It's true! Maybe thats why they are so good . I've had two of these kits since August 99 . They are the most impressive combo's I've used. (I've used them all)They get used hard ... They get dropped ... Over load em ... Leave them out in the rain ... cut through nails ... Stall the motor ... The list keeps going and going just like the tools. I have milwaukee 18v tools as well as the Bosch 24v combo kit. They are very good tools but they don't get used like the Makitas. (Dewalt's cordless line is banned from toolpig's tool trailer until further notice.) The reason ? Everyone just grabs the tool that feels right. Yes the Bosch tools are more powerful, but they are heavier. The saw is not as well balanced. The safety release on the switch is pretty awkward compared to the Makitas thumb button. For more details check my original review , "beefy" written in December. I just wanted to let you know nothing has changed since then. Still no failures. Makita really did their homework before they started selling these things. I couldn't be more pleased.

Not The Best Price,

This review is from: Makita DK1016 1/2-Inch 18 Volt Cordless Drill / 6-1/2-Inch Circular Saw Combo Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'm very happy with both pieces of equipment. The saw works well as long as you use it for what it was intended for. The drill is great with lots of power and torque!Prices at the local stores are lower than this price and they come with the Ni-MH batteries too! Call Amazon and ask them to meet local price and you'll have yourself a great deal.

Makita 18 Volt Drill and saw review,
By A Customer
This review is from: Makita DK1016 1/2-Inch 18 Volt Cordless Drill / 6-1/2-Inch Circular Saw Combo Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great buy. The drill has more power than most corded ones. It also outlasts most cordless drills. The battery packs last a long time. The nice thing is that the drill and saw have interchabgeable battery packs. If one dies you can use the other while it is charging. The saw isn't anything to write home and brag about. what you have to realize is that it isn't made to do the same jobs as a 7 1/2 inch circular saw. this saw is meant for small jobs. The batteries die out on this saw rather quickly too. But, overall it is a great product. I never regretted getting mine.

Great Addition To My Workshop,

As I live in Ireland where tool prices are outrageous, I tend not to buy my power tools there. I am fortunate to have a willing brother in law living in California who in his own words is my "tool-mule". Whenever he returns to Ireland for a holiday I ensure that he has at least one power tool to keep him company on the long journey. His last travelling companion was the Makita DK1016 combination set. I am absolutely delighted to have purchased same. The cordless saw is a dream to use and effortlessly cuts through 3/4" plywood and MDF. The charge in the batteries lasts and if you ensure that they are completely discharged prior to recharge then there is no memory effect. The drill has plenty torque and power and again is a joy to use. All in all, one of the finest peices of equipment I have purchased.

Makita Cordless tools,
This review is from: Makita DK1016 1/2-Inch 18 Volt Cordless Drill / 6-1/2-Inch Circular Saw Combo Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have been sold out on the Makita line of cordless tools sinceI first started buying them in 1979. The reasons are as follows:1. you can find them in cities the size of los Angeles or as small as MT.Vernon, Kentucky 2. the warranty goes much farther than any of the supposed famous brands made in america. 3. My Makita tools have proven to be better than any of the competition countless times, not at home, but on large construction sites where i put them through more than extreme conditions on a day to day basis. 4. If you buy your tools from just about any big retail store, see what you have to go through to get a minor problem taken care of. I feel confident that the new items will live up to the fine tradition of excellence I have come to count on when buying what I personally consider to be the BEST cordless tools money can buy.

I own a wood shop with my nine year old son, and several years before he was born i purchased my first makita cordless drill. it was the 7.2 volt model ,i think it was the year before makita opened there plant in buford georgia. i figured it would be suitable for driving sheetrock screws. well it has driven more screws than my electric drills. i can't seem to kill it although i have tried-iv'e replaced the battery once. not bad for seventeen years old. recently i purchased a 9.6 volts makitabecause i thought it had good balance and power between 7.2 volt and the 12 volt models and because it was light for overhead work with plenty of power. i also purchased the 18 volt combo pack. the saw has plenty of power. i had a bosch 24 volt saw that a friend let me try for a while. also another good saw with plenty of power but to darn heavy to operate all day. i would come home and my arm was SPENT. I LOVE MY MAKITA TOOLS. i have never used a corded drill or saw for quite a while and would be lost without them. the 12 volt trim saw works great when doing overhead work like wood cielings or inside / outside trim. i think it is priced fairly for all the work it has done for me and i work a tool hard a lot of days of the week. |
